The Patriots scored 14 special teams points (17 if you include a field goal), their only offensive touchdown was scored before the half.  So can somebody explain to me how cheating helped them win this game?  No, I am not asking this as a rhetorical question, I am serious.  If they viewed these tapes at halftime, or even before half time, how did they manage to only put up one touchdown.  I really want somebody to tell me, they almost outscored the Steelers on special teams points alone, somebody please explain.  And don't say "well it doesn't matter because they cheated and they should be kicked out of football for the next millenium."

well thanx for proving my point that Tom Brady is the most overrated qb in the league and is really nothing but an average system qb on a good team. so there were two special team touchdowns i'm guessing brown had one of them, who appearently every patriot fan claims was an average player on the Patriots.

so wait let me get this..... tom brady plays average with average players, and the players around him make him look better, unlike favre and manning who both make the players around them better, and a patriot fan admits that it wasn't all tom brady that won the afc championship game, wow this is a first.

go ahead pat fans zero me now

So your going to throw 1 game out there from 8 years of games to try and persuade everyone the Patriots aren't "really" cheaters.  Nope not gonna happen ... the only people will agree with you are your own fans.

Pretty much everyone else is disgusted that the Patriots franchise has screwed everyone out of the true outcomes of games from the sport we all love for the past decade.

If the Eagles pulled that BS I wouldn't be a fan anymore of them.

I don't think anyone ever called the stealing of signs, a surefire way to beat any defense.  The Steelers had the #1 D in the league that year.

Having no turnovers (pitt had forced 13 in the previous 3 games) was a huge accomplishment for any offense vs. them.

But no one is saying if the pats get your tapes, your D is now useless.  They still have to outperform that defense.  You could know every time that Lawrence Taylor was going to blitz.  But that doesn't mean you could hold him without a sack.

FavrelsaGod... Brady got injured in that game... which proves your stupidity to the next level

and bigboy... this is the one game that everyone is pointing at, so I decided to start a thread about it, and if you think that the Patriots are the only team to have cheated... something is desperately wrong with you, but these statements have nothing to do with my original question.

Valid points slashsnake, it could have helped them with not turning the ball over, I will admit that, but thats one of the things the Patriots do best in all of their postseason games, they don't turn the ball over, hell they didn't even turn the ball over in the past Super Bowl.

Well they had 3 fumbles (plus a "tuck") and an INT the week before the Steelers

But you are right, they do seem to turn over the ball very few times in the playoffs for some reason.

And I had almost forgot Drew was in there from part way through the first quarter on.  Pats were only scoring 10 points a game at the start of the season with Bledsoe starting against bad D's, and no offense to Bledsoe fans, but that was his best playoff game ever.  Not bad to do that against one of the best defenses he had ever played.

Nothing that proves either way, but just some argument towards the feasability of it.

The Pats won that game.  Here is my point which I have made on other threads!  For all you Pats fans who has said that Belichick is a genius and the taping meant nothing, answer this!  If Belichick is a genius and the taping didn't help, then what genius would do something for over 7 years without any payback.  You can't have it both ways, either the tapes helped, or Belichick isn't a genius!

I think the problem here is you're asking us to make a very broad claim but trying to rationalize it as something very specific.

"The tapes helped" can mean a lot of things.  He can watch the tapes and try to see how players react (are they familiar with audibles, or do they hesitate).  He can try to study the actions they take (do the corners back up and try to make tackles?  Do they jump routes and leave themselves exposed?).  He can see if there's a difference in plays called differently (having multiple plays that work the same way).  He can try to figure out how his players match up.  He can try to determine what team blitzes more and what teams drop guys into coverage.  He can try to see where blitzes come from.

Or it could be for an entirely different purpose.  Nobody knows Belichick's motives on  anything (tape related or not) except himself.  I do think he wouldn't take the time to do it if he didn't think it would be worth the effort.  However, if by "the tapes helped" you mean that he was able to figure out every play and how to counter it, I don't think that's remotely possible.

But, of course, I don't know anything for certain.  I'm just speculating.
