As a Buckeye fan that has to get use to the "HATRED", I can't do the same to a team that I hate. This has no refelection on the program. These are kids and EVERY progam takes a chance on these kids. That's it. I have heard some stories about other SEC teams having some questionable enrollment policies but I have never heard anything about Florida. Of course, I have never heard anything about the many schools in the Big Ten, that does not mean it does not happen. As much as I want to rip Florida here, I have to defend them. This should not be a representation of the entire program.
Anyone want to start the annoying arguement about how the Big Ten sucks or how the SEC is the football god?
OK people, let's refocus on the actual discussion that was taking place here before it digressed into a series of posts correcting the grammar of the previous poster. With the blatant disregard for even passable English used by at least two-thirds of the "savants" on these message boards, attempting to correct the grammar on each poorly conceived post is like trying to empty the Atlantic Ocean one bucket at a time.
The biggest point I was attempting to make with my original post on this thread was that generalizing an entire program, coaching staff, university, and in Freeman Hater's case, state, based on the actions of a single degenerate is beyond my comprehension. This kid committed an absolutely despicable act, and he was punished by the head football coach to the extent of the coach's authority.
I'm not sticking up for Urban Meyer. I don't particularly like Urban Meyer. But I can admit that he handled this situation correctly. I can admit he's a hell of a football coach and one of the top recruiters in college football today. I think that Florida will have a legitimate shot at 10 wins or better for as long as he stays at that school. I don't like Tim Tebow. But if he were rocking a garnet and gold instead of blue and orange I'd love him just as much as Gator fans do.
There's a major difference between liking someone and respecting someone. That's what makes a victory over Miami or Florida that much more sweet...it's always a battle because they are quality opponents. That's why no one cares when you beat Duke in football, because there is no satisfaction in victory when the opponent is clearly inferior. Whether they want to admit it or not, people respect Miami, Florida, and FSU, and you can tell because they storm the field when they beat them and continue to talk about it for days, weeks, months, and maybe years afterwards. Do people go out of their way to talk smack to Baylor football fans after they beat them for the 50th time in a row? Doubtful.
I just think it's funny that people don't realize that going out of their way to criticize a football team is really just conceding that they are important enough for you to take your time to not only read the story about them, but then feel compelled to comment on it. It's really an ultimate tribute to their relevance on a national scale.
P.S. -- I'm glad that a few of you guys got some laughs out of the first post, thanks for the acknowledgment. I do have to thank UF for developing Gatorade...the Tropical Punch flavor is delicious.
First of all I am amazed that Freeman is smart enough to use a computer. I don't know if this guy has ever been to the state of Florida, but I can tell you that Florida is nothing like the rest of the south. The only people in Florida that have a remotely southern accent live in North Florida, the other 80% of the population speaks clear english.
I go to the University of Florida and let me tell you that the athletes here are not the complete thugs that they are made out to be. Sure there are the occasional players who fit the typical thug mold but their are plenty of these guys in the sports world (Pacman Jones, Michael Vick, Chris Henry, Maurice Clarrett). The point is that some of these guys grew up with less fortunate circumstances than others; some of them adjust and become model citizens, others revert back to the lifestyle they know. Jamar Hornsby is an exception of a complete moron, athlete or not, who realized that he probably wont even play pro football and resorted to shameful behavior.
btw, Ashley Slonina was the girlfriend of cornerback Joe Haden and it is believed that Hornsby stole the credit card when he was helping clean out her apartment.
Don't even make the statement that urban meyer turns his cheek, he kicked Marcus Thomas off the team for multiple drug violations during the national championship season. Thomas would have been a first round pick, and ended up being a fourth round pick anyway despite his past and the fact he missed most of his last season of college football. Thomas, by the way, just had a cocaine possession charge dropped against him, so it looks like meyer made the right move.
Love the fact that we aren't talking about the Iowa football program for a change. Admittedly, all schools have issues (and in Iowa, they like to drink and then pee in public), but this one is special and pretty unusual. Thanks Florida for taking the lead in creativity. Love ya.
So he kicks a 4 star defensive back from the team that we really could use and you say he is the next Bobby Bowden? You are so filled with crap its actually funny.
GO G8TERS, answer my question, would he kick Tbone off the team? You really didn't mention to what level. You don't get kicked off a team for a little fight. Now if he went on a mass murder most definitily. It might help if you mention what crime. If he stole the credit card like this guy? Most definitily.
Gators93 answered for me. We all know the type of character that Tebow has and that he would never do anything that stupid but if he were to still the credit card of a dead girl and use it for six months he would be removed from the team. Does that answer your question?
Magicfan123, the correct English usage is "your generalizing" not "you generalizing". An infinitive is preceded by a possessive pronoun.
Well, I guess if I were to proofread it, I might have said "Your generalizations regarding southerners", or something similar. Thanks for the tip, though...
By the way, because this is an internet message board, it's extremely difficult to distinguish tone in writing, sometimes. My pessimistic side tells me you're being an uptight prick who seeks to insult me because one of my posts irritated you. My optimistic side tells me you're a genuinely nice person who is simply attempting to teach the English language... The pessimistic side seems more logical, however, I'm not completely sure, so I went with the Ole' positive response... That's completely disregarding my current verbose rant that one might call a paragraph, then again, why don't you tell us?
None of us are perfect, not even close. As far as character goes time and money will tell. Character is a 18 year old kid fighting a war in Iraq or a pro football player making millions joining the Army. Don't put your Tbone on such a high throne as of yet. Yes you answered the question but your "Buckeye" coach would have a lot of thoughtrs about kicking Tbone off the team.
