My take on game 1?  I wouldn't say we have the Pens right where we want them, but we're not in a bad position.  These are very evenly matched teams.

I hate the Flyers rep, but at the same time, it helps us sometimes.  Teams feel like they have to come out and hit, hit, hit us so we don't hit them.  Montreal outhit us, and were out of position way too much.  A couple times in game 1 the Pens ignored to puck and focused on the hit.  They mostly got away with it, but that's something that can bite you badly.

I can't wait for game 2!  Bigger hits, fewer goals, I think.  Hatcher looked like one pissed off mofo at the end, didn't he?

So richards didnt focus on the hit on Malkin than Gonchar on Malkins shorthanded goal?  I would say the Flyers got bit pretty bad on that one

I wouldn't worry about Hatcher being pissed off, Laraque will handle any crap he dishes out.  Haven't seen the Pens intimidated by Flyers at all.

Bigger hits aren't going to stop Malkin, he seems to thrive regardless of the hitting.  Just remember the Pens won game one on 5 on 5, without the so called Crosby dives giving the Pens PP chances, even though Upshalls dive was priceless.  I imagine, if the intensity is turned up a lot more tonight, the Flyers will be the ones doing it, and they will be called more this time.  A Pens PP on the ice, make the loss of Timmonen even more visible, and life just a little tougher for the Flyers.

I wouldn't worry about Hatcher being pissed off, Laraque will handle any crap he dishes out. Those two are NOT going to fight....ever.  It has nothing to do with toughness or anything like that.  It would be stupid for Hatcher to fight Laraque because Hatcher needs to be on the ice, not in the box.

The Flyers really need the win tonight to put some doubt into the Penguins and actually start making them see a little bit of adversity.  Its been too smooth of a sail for them so far in the playoffs.

That's a concern I have, Tark.

wow with Coburn out and Timo our def looks pathetic. hatcher is lost and smith is out of position. Were taking too many dumb penalties. And we didnt get many shots on goal. There is no way we survive this game

The Flyers played with guts tonight, especially after losing Coburn.  The Pens did not play their best game, but I think the Flyers had a lot to do with that.  The Pens have got to start shooting the puck more ... it is that simple.  They keep trying for the perfect play, and it just isn't there.  But obviously, the Flyers cannot turn the puck over.  They did a much better job tonight, but the Downie turnover was a killer.

I honestly don't know what to expect for game 3.  They always say you're not in trouble until you lose your first home game, and I know the Flyers will come out strong.  I just hope the Pens play a more simple game ... get the puck in deep and fire more pucks at the net.  Hopefully they will do that on the road.

crowdog,

i dont blame downie for that turnover, altho he bobbled the puck hatcher touched the puck last and failed on his clearing attempt. I dont credit that to downie i credit that to hatcher. Downie played a pretty solid game and his presence was known

Flyers is an awesome team, I don't count them out, but the Pens pretty much have a better offense. They outscored the flyers by 2 goals again. And one of the goals, which I was felt was an obvious goal, was taken away. Just being honest, but that's probably why.

A lot of great hockey played, and it's an awesome series. I'm not predicting victory quite yet. Only 2-0 in the series so far, and there's still plenty of hockey to be played. Flyers are a dangerous teams, but the Pens seem to have a system going right now to isolate their best players and kind of take them out of the game. It's great watching Pens and Flyers play though. Always a great game to watch. I still have a feeling that the Flyers are gonna pull off 2 games out of this, but I predicted Pens 4-2. And no, I'm not just being a homer. I'm a massive Steeler fan, and I called us to lose to the Jaguars. I knew the Pens were going to lose against Ottawa last year. Just my opinion, that's all. :)

It could just come down to the stats, like the Penguins score more points than the Flyers accounting for their playoff wins thus far against the Flyers.  But I think the fact that Penguins held the Flyers to fewer goals than they (the Penguins) scored could lead to people talking about their defense.  Its hard to tell about these things.
