This obviously isn't the first time, it's happened probably hundreds or thousands of times in the past and it won't be the last time this has happened, . The kids on-field actions warrant rewards, is this any different than offering a smart kid a scholarship? I just don't get why people get all pissed off over issues like this, who cares... The kids might as well have their fun and get something back from it, who is it harming?

I care...oh wait, no I don't. If you think any big name college athlete doesn't get treated like this, then you're as naive as they are.

no, college athletes should not be given rewards like this, plain and simple. when they get to the pros, they can.
and this is from a pretty decent former college athlete.

man, i cant wait until it becomes allowed for college athletes to receive gifts, money, or anything else... team with the most money wins!

thousands could have done it

1. "Is it any different than giving a smart kid a scholarship?"

Answer: O.J. Mayo recieved an athletic scholarship to play basketball. The allegations are over additional gifts and money he recieved that are against the NCAA rules. I'm not sure how you missed it.

2. "The kids on-field actions warrant rewards"

You mean aside from the ability to play basketball and attend college at USC for free, which allows him to make millons in the NBA? Other than that reward, you mean?

3. This obviously isn't the first time, it's happened probably hundreds or thousands of times in the past and it won't be the last time this has happened

Tell you what. Go break into someone's house and assault them and steal all their stuff. When you get arrested, try that line on the cops. See what happens. Just because something that's against the rules has happened before and will happen again doen't mean it's something you're allowed to do

4. Who is it harming?

In the grand scheme of things? Probably no-one. Still doesn't make it not against the rules. You can argue all you want that the rule is unfair, but you know what? It's there. Mayo knew it. USC knew it. Getting busted for it is their own fault.
