I see these 2 as the logical choices this weekend. I guess it comes down to whether or not we want Dillon, Kapler, or Gwynn in the lineup. I like the idea of getting fielder out of the field myself. no pun intended.

Well, with the Red Sox sending 3 righties to the mound for the series, we can probably expect to see Gwynn and/or Counsell in the lineup as much as possible.  With that being said, it's a fair bet that Braun DH's before Fielder.  Especially with the green monster out in LF and Braun not the best at judging balls off it, we might actually see Kapler out there (played with the Red Sox).

Also, with most of the Sox's bullpen right-handed, Ned might be more likely to save Gwynn and Counsell for late inning situations.  Who knows, but I doubt Fielder would DH.

Also, why do you see these two as being the only options?

I sense that Fielder would be the better option as DH in general. Brawn seems like the kind of guy that improves as the game goes on - meaning "warming up" while in the field will probably help out his batting. If he comes in cold every AB from the bench, he'll probably be tight and not perform as well.

Fielder seems fairly inactive in general and will probably perform nearly the same warmed up or not. Plus, he can gorge in the dugout, eat his twinkees and sunflower seeds to give his bat that extra pop - whatever he needs to do to get his strength up:P

Other DH options might include weeks - he sucks in the field and seems to be able to step into the path of a pitch just fine cold off the bench. Then he has 2-3 innings to ice his bruise before getting out there again for the same thing;)

I would like fielder out of the field myself. nothing against the big boy but I am reasonably sure I could play a better first base than him.

So we would DH Fielder and put in...Joe Dillon at 1st base?  Another right-handed bat against 3 right-handed starting pitchers??  That just doesn't make any sense.  I thought you were a 'varsity manager' fish.

I say DH Braun because then we can get Gwynn in the game adding more speed and another left handed bat.

I like this option. LaPorta is good right now.

Laporta is still in AA. He has 243 professional at bats, half of which are in A and Rookie ball last season.

He might very well be ready for some DH exposure, but maybe not. I say lets find out, but I doubt the people that make the decisions feel the same way. Anyone have any information if this is a real possibility?

If the roster stays pat, I would rather see us add Gwynn or Kaplers bat to the lineup.
