On a side note, it is kind of cool that you cannot go to an arena in the NBA and not see many Lakers fans, and these are usually not homers, but old school Magic, Kareem and Worthy fans. (Jerry West and that era also.) I cannot go to a game against the Lakers at the Delta Center (will always be the DC) and not find hundreds. There are so many Utahns that are Lakers fans and not the Jazz. Very impressive.
I was watching some Lakers games from back in 96-97, the Golden Age of the NBA in my mind, mostly because I'm not old enough to remember back to the early 80s, I was watching rookie Kobe go up against Prime Jordan in an OT game in Chicago with Chick Hearn announcing, good times. Back then, the Bulls were public enemy #1 in the NBA. I always heard stuff like "they never give anyone a chance" "They have Jordan, no fair"
Lovellt, you hit another point about being so many Lakers fans around the country. That is another reason why I think people hate us so much. You will run into more homers and fans like sman(Laker fan on this board that everybody hate on the team boards, he's funny to me though) because there are twich as many Lakers fans than any other team. Basically, you have a greater chance to argue with a Lakers fan than any other team.
But personaly, I love how people hate Kobe and the Lakers, because that just let you know you are on top.
Yet if you look on the team message boards the Lakers are third in number of members, so, no, that's not it. As far as Kobe, people don't like him because he is unlikeable. That seems like stating the obvious, but, between the rape situation(I don't think he did it), and the attacks on Malone(who IS an ass), his driving Shaq out of town, his tendency to blame team mates, you could go on and on.
As to Laker fans being unlikeable, there are plenty that turn everything into a discussion about Kobe, just as Cleveland fans turn everything into Lebron(I think there are almost as many annoying Cleveland fans). The discussion isn't about your guy, sometimes a basketball discussion isn't about Kobe and Lebron, deal with it.
Also is the blind interruption to any thread with, "The lakers are the best, if you don't think so you are stupid". Lakers fans love this, they do it even when their team is mediocre. Knicks fans do it to, at the slightest sign of not being the armpit of the NBA. It seems to be a big market thing.
Which brings us to the last point. Big market teams are unfair. Even though there is a salary cap, a big market team can afford the luxury penalty. Players also stand to make more in endorsements on these teams. They stand to have better chances at all-star selections. They are going to be seen on national TV more. So, it defies logic and reason that the knicks have been so bad. But it is another reason why people have such intense dislike for these teams.

I can only name 2 Lakers fans that would make a thread like that. Other then them, I don't see Lakers fans putting "if you don't think so you are stupid"

Kobe Bryant. plain and simple. he's arrogant. he cheated on his wife. he raped a girl and paid her off. he basically said his whole team sucked at one point. you could go on and on about his negative qualities. lets try his positive ones....
he's good at basketball. ummmmmm..... that's about it.
i don't hate the Lakers, just kobe. although it is disturbing that most lakers fans can ignore the dirt on him and kiss his ass.

There are plenty of subjective and a few objective reasons to hate the Lakers. As a Laker hater, allow me to expound.
When I was little, I was a big Piston fan (86-88), so I grew to hate the Lakers for the typical reasons- they were my favorite team's arch rival and nemesis. Nothing abnormal about that. A few other subjective reasons for me would be the general air of arrogance that the team and many of their fans exhibit, and the sense of entitlement that those same fans feel. Take a look at many of the posts lately, one of which states that the Lakers are "clearly superior" to the Jazz and that the Jazz are merely delaying the inevitable. Such smug arrogance and a lack of respect for their opponents is very off-putting. Of course, Kobe enters into the question too. Never has so much talent been given to such a reprehensible person. I hated Shaq too, but Kobe takes it to a new level. Of course, that's my opinion, but this paragraph is all about the subjective reasons that I hate the Lakers.
Aside from personal bias (to which I will admit to having), the Lakers haven't been a very likable organization from a more objective standpoint, either. Tell me another job where an employee can openly bash his co-workers and continually insult his superiors (the management), essentially demand that he be fired and insist that he would "rather play on Pluto" and still retain his job. If the Lakers had any kind of pride, they would have served him his papers long ago. Remember, this same player for whom they sold their souls nearly signed with the Clippers when he was a free agent, and essentially was the catalyst for the implosion of their championship roster. Such spinelessness is downright disgraceful.
But cheer up, Laker fans. You've got it good. You have 14 championship banners to call your own, more than nearly any other team. A lot of the hatred directed your way does indeed come from your record of success. I'd much rather be in your shoes than in mine, whereby none of my favorite teams (Portland, Utah and Seattle) have won a championship since I was born.
"I'm sure in the next day or two-- folks will find fault with Kobe being on here; and how CP3 should be on the 1st team. Just another laundry list of awards for Kobe....."
