Could Arlen Specter be the source of punishment for the Patriots?

Obviously, I don't mean that he would be sending down the fines/suspension/etc, but could he be the reason why Goddell feels forced to?

He seems to be a fairly big thorn in Goddell right now. He also doesn't seem to impressed that the NFL has basically already said "this is nothing new" to the tapes that trickled in.

Arlen Specter (aka Sphincter) is serving Comcast interests in the matter, not the NFL or the NFL fan base.  He is one of the most recent examples of toilet paper for sale leadership.

No chance at all.  Specter is a Sabre rattling fool who is trying to endear himself to Pennsylvania voters.  Goodell is an honorable  and confident man and he will not be pressured into changing his ruling.  Specter has no power over the NFL and he knows that he can only push this BS so far before it blows up in his face.

Being a Raider fan and hating every team not Raiders, I have to say Arlen Sucktor needs to do his job and IMO that's not minding NFL business. I'm willing to bet that Pennsylvania has much bigger issues that warrant his attention. I personally think him sticking his nose in it is nothing more than publicity whoring. The NFL is HUGE and what better place for a no one to get some pub?

Specter has no power over the NFL and he knows that he can only push this BS so far before it blows up in his face.

The NFL has a free trade agreement with the US Congress. If that were revoked or changed, it could change the hands that control the money. I'm sure none of the owners or NFL staff would like to see this. I'm not sure Specter could garner enough political force to get this to happen, but I wouldn't rule out the blind threat. (I've seen him use it indirectly a few times already. Just listen to his interviews when he is asked why he is "investigating" the matter.)

Honestly, I do hope it blows up in his face. I was excited to Congress try and correct a real problem like Steroids (which would fall under drug trafficking and other issues) but I didn't realize that they would take it as a Carte Blanche to "fix" all that was wrong with sports.
