Schoonerboy,
Do you have nothing better to do than get onto the Husker threads and make incoherent (that means unclear) comments? You seem to really get off on bashing the Huskers and their fans. I'm guessing that you sit there pounding your pud whilst you write these ignorant comments.
Do you have any real clue about what it means to be a Husker fan? Just as with any group, you will have those that aren't really representative of the group as a whole. That doesn't mean that we all felt that way. Anybody can get online and look up stats, doesn't take a genius (that's a smart person), but that doesn't mean you really know anything about the team or its fans.
You want to talk about fans turning when the chips are down....okay, let's talk. I happened to have lived in the "great" state of Oklahoma for five years during the 90's, not one of OK's greatest stretches. If I hadn't grown up with the OU/NU rivalry all of my life I wouldn't have even known that football was anything big in Oklahoma. Nobody cared. It was pathetic. (Yes, I lived in Oklahoma City for 2 of those years so I was very near the action or lack thereof)
I was at the OU/NU game, in Norman where we pounded your d*&ks in the dirt to the tune of.....well I don't remember the score anymore; I just know that it was by more than fifty. Guess what....nobody seemed to even know that there was a game that day. I bought tickets just a couple of weeks before the game and I don't think it ever sold out. There were a lot of empty seats though.
Now, of course, you can't swing a dead cat (borrowing one of the jacked up Okie phrases that I acquired during my stay) without hitting a kiosk selling OU gear. Quite a different story than it was 10 years ago. (I still have family there so I go back occasionally) To summarize all of this, basically your fans just abandoned the football program. Let's see, there's a term for this.......oh yeah, fair-weather fans.
In my opinion, and yes this is just my opinion, if Stoops had a bad year or two, you'd be right back in the same condition. OU fans just don't seem to care as much as Husker fans. I'm sure your next comment would be to bash us by say that "the Huskers are all we have". Point taken, but I lived in OK and there isn't much there either.
To respond to the original post, Pederson was trying to create his own legacy. Not satisfied with building upon what was already there, he tried to tear that down and rebuild. In so doing, he made some very poor moves, one of was the manner in which he got rid of Solich. Maybe we would have made our way back and had 9+ win seasons every year, no one will ever know. Not a lot of sense arguing an un-provable fact.
To Schoonerboy again, I would suggest that you take your un-informed, ignorant dribble elsewhere, but every time I see your stupid avatar I know I am about to read some rather amusing crap that I can only imagine makes you feel better about yourself. It also makes me realize that, barring any major head trauma that leaves me severely brain damaged, there will always be someone out there that is substantially dumber than I.
