There's not a whole lot going on as far as updates, but I do have one potentially major development that's worth watching in the coming weeks.
5 star running back Lamar Miller out of Killian High School in Miami, Florida is reportedly slowly sliding Rutgers up his list of schools.
Now don't go wild with this, because Miami is still probably the favorite at this point. It's just something worth keeping an ear out for.
For those who don't know, Miller is a 5'11", 205 pound RB with blazing speed. He runs a 4.27 unofficial 40 time (4.4 was his fastest official), and is ranked as the #3 running back in the country for the class of 2009. He is incredibly strong for his size, and has reportedly benched as much as 265 pounds, and squatted 405. The kid has confidence coming out the wazzou, too. Check out this quote:
I have great vision and I see the whole field well. I'm fast too and am a hard runner. I compare myself to Clinton Portis and LaDanian Tomlinson. They can break tackles and get away from guys well and that's what I do.
When asked about any weaknesses to his game he replied that he's working on his blocking.
He's still a ways away from making a final decision on a school, but according to what I've seen, his top five probably looks something like:
1. Miami
2. LSU
3. Florida
4. Rutgers
5. West Virginia
With Texas and Georgia being a close 6th and 7th.
That's not bad company.

lets get somethin set up w/ ray so they can discuss how we (RU) loves us a strong, short stature RB... honestly that would be HUGE if we could land a 5 star recruit or two.... im assuming he is gonna do the rounds in respect to mult visits to each school while also checking who else is commiting to the program.... im gonna go out and say it... i love this kid savage ... im sure he has somethin to do w/ this.. hehe

I was just talking about this to a buddy of mine yesterday. I don't know why Rutgers can't get a big time running back to committ. I mean you know Schiano loves to run the ball, and everyone knew Rice was going to leave after his junior year. Not that I'm knocking the guys we have now, but com'on we should be able to do better. I don't know how we can't land a kid with a recruiting pitch like this "kid I will give you 300 carries a year and you will run behind one of the best lines in college football."

The BE and Rutgers still have growing pains and that makes it more difficult to sign these kids. The good news is that we are on more and more 4/5 star prospects wish lists.
It also hurt that Ray got drafted so low. There is no one in the country with his numbers and he had a great combine. Also proved he shows up in biggest games. And yet he drops to 2nd round.
With that said. If Robinson/young show up big this year it will show it wasnt just the Ray Rice show and will help convince more 5 stars to consider us. Another drawback is our academics and the fact that Schiano has not patience with bad apples. Most of these 5 stars come with baggage.

whats wrong with our academics?? we're considered one of the top schools in the country and in d1 football in regards to the academic aspect
also i think rice getting drafted in round 2 helps and not hurts..he was considered the 5th best rb out of the draft class and not once was considered a 1st rounder..the fact he went before some of the other guys makes it all the better...we've now produced rb's in back to back years in the 2nd round

You got it right. It is the high standards we have here that will make some kids decide to take their skills elsewhere.
A friend of mine was being recruited and when one of the southern schools made a home visit his mother asked the same question she asked every coach. "I am giving you my son for 4-5 years and have to trust that you will take care of him like I have for his first 18 years", "tell me why I should feel secure that you will be there for him". This coach, seeing that she was a single, black mother from Jersey made an assumption and told her how he is always there for the players. Example he said "I got a call at 3am that one player was arrested in a barfight" "I got right over to the jail and made sure he didn't get into trouble and that it wouldn't get out to the news". She threw his ass out of her house.
As for Ray Rice being drafted in 2nd round and considered 5th best RB. That is my point. If he had his career and combine coming out of the Big 10 or SEC. He would have been considered 2-3 best RB and drafted in 1st round.
Bottom line. We are getting better players each year and I am proud to see that Schiano has not lowered his standards just to recruit more 5 stars.

What are his academic qualities? Is he a good dude? Can he be a positive influence or is he going to be a problem, i.e. Antwan Easterling. If the answers is "I don't know," then I say have fun being a Hurricane. Lets remember that the star rating is not an exact science and way over blown. There are many, many talented kids out there that have the better qualities and deserve to play at Rutgers.

Yeah, I've been following this story about Miller too. Hopefully he waits to see if Miami has another bad offensive year, and they do, before he commits anywhere. I think I also read that he's always dreamed of playing for the Canes. But, if they can't run the ball, why go there?
Rutgersfan2004....I would think most people wouldn't agree with your comment about Ray going so low. His combine #'s were good for him, but when you compare his speed, size, receptions, and # of carries in college it made sense. Let's be honest, Ray was great, but he doesn't have the exact "NFL caliber" Rb look to him. I like that he's behind McGahee because it will give him a little more time to develop.
Speaking of Ray, did anyone e
