beachbum,
you just lost all credibility with that statement. Did you not watch the last game of the season for the Colts when the played the Titans. I, yes myself the skid kid, could have played better than Sorgi did in that game
42 - 61 68.9% 444 yds 3 TD 1 Int 99.4 Rating
Skid I wasn't comparing Sorgi and Quinn. I was saying "how can you compare them?". Neither have played any meaningful football. If I put you in at QB with all the Colts starters in a meaningful game then MAYBE you would perform better than Sorgi did against the Titans but what if I make you play with all the other backups on the team against a team who is playing for a playoff berth? A team that always plays you tough?
Ok at the risk of sounding like a Jim Sorgi fan here was his two previous games:

the brownies may not win a division first off. who cares its nice to have a team that is worth watching for more than a quarter. no anderson is not the long time answer at quarterback. you cant have a starter who cant throw the slant. and the couple he threw for td's doesnt count. stop and think how many he air mailed or threw 5 yds behind a receiver. our boy braylon cant catch the slant either. he is frustrating to watch. he will go make the great catch and then drop the routine slant or curl. painful. those are two reasons the brownies probably wont win the division. the third and most important is the fact most teams in thier right mind are not gonna kick to cribbs. how many big drives and game changers did he have last year? im not saying my beloved brownies cant do it, our division has weakend considerably or at least each team has a gaping weakness to exploit. but dont hate us because we finally have something to root for.

In addition, if Ben wasn't the QB that year, a lot of whether they would have still won the SB would have depended on who was. I seem to recall that Maddox wasn't around that year so would it have been Charlie Batch?
Lym, Maddox was the backup in 2005, Batch was #3. Ben was injured early in the season and sat out the Jacksonville game, I believe in week 4, and Maddox stunk it up so bad there were some classless fans who trashed his house. Ben came back the following week and played a few more games before having surgery on his knee. Batch came in to start the games against Green Bay, where they barely won, and Cleveland. Batch lit it up against Cleveland and the Steelers had the game safely in hand by halftime. Batch broke a bone in his hand in that game and Maddox had to come back in and I think he was allowed to throw about 4 passes throughout the entire second half. The following week, we played the Ravens with Maddox as the QB, Randle El as #2 and Ben dressed as the emergency QB. Unfortunately, Maddox stayed healthy and the Steelers lost again on mistake after mistake by Maddox.
Ben came back the following week against Indy, and he probably rushed back because of the poor backup play, and struggled, looking very tentative of his knee. After a tough loss to Cincy the following week, Ben led the Steelers on an 8 game winning streak through the Superbowl.
Based on Pittsburgh's Defense and their running Game in 2005, I think it is not out of the question that if the Steelers could have made it to the SB they would have still won it as Ben's performance in the SB was not that good.
Lym...Ben undoubtedly struggled in the Superbowl. He could find no rhythm. I don't question that Batch would have won that game if he were called upon to do so. Ben did, though, make some big plays that other QBs might not have made. There were a couple of scrambles for first downs and of course the 3rd and 27 completion to Ward that were key plays in the Steelers win. However, you can't discount what Ben did in the 7 games leading up to the Superbowl.
When looking at Ben as a QB and trying to decide if Pittsburgh could be as successful without him, all I would ask you to do is watch the 4 Browns games from the last two years. Watch those four games again and come back and tell me that the Steelers would have won all four of those games with anybody else under Center.

Hello My Browns friends...
Anderson could be boom or bust.. He has the arm to maake all the throws.. It is just putting it all together. I just think Cleveland fans need to be careful if Anderson struggles some at the beginning of the year.. Quinn is the fan favorite.... If the Browns start slow Quinn's call will get louder and louder. Quinn has the moxy to make it! He always made plays at the end of the game! Pressure doesn't get to him. Quinn overthrows early in games but he will settle down and make he plays at the end if the D keeps them in the game? It will be interesting to see how the year goes with Quinn and Anderson...

Dk - Here's how I see it:
0-1(loss to Dallas) stay the course
0-2 (loss to P-burgh) the Quinn chants will start
0-3 (loss to Ravens) the chants will turn to roars. RAC and Savage will be on the grill. Quinn will play in Cincy.
1-2 (beat Ravens) DA stays. everyone will trust in RAC and Phil'smessage to stay the course
0-4 or 1-3 (loss to Cincy) Quinn will have played in the Cincy game 2nd half and will start after the bye week against the Giants.
What I'm afraid of is that we'll muddle through somehow and have mixed results, which means we'll stay on the same horse and we'll never know where we stand with Quinn. By the end of the season we'll be no further along in determining our long term QB answer.

being competitive last year was pretty much a surprise to the organization, and that prevented Quinn from getting any time under center. Now with DA going to the pro-bowl, you don't want to come out the following season with a new QB, so you give DA the contract..... great.... but we still have an un-quantifiable talent sitting on our bench... I think Quinn is our guy, but when will we see him ? it might not be until it's "too late" this season, or we ride DA all year and trade him after this season for some picks, and next season we have something to watch on Day-1 of the draft!
DA isn't the right choice, but he's not terrible, so if our Line and receivers keep up their amazing play, he'll do enough to get by, really a .500 season is a "win" right now with our schedule, so he's in a good position where the expectations aren't that high on him.....
NOW...... if we Beat the Steelers once he'll be liked by many, if we beat them twice, he'll be Loved by all in Cleveland, and if the Steelers make it in as a Wild Card, and we beat them THREE times........ well.... Start shopping for the Bronze to make his statue out of!!!!!

dawgdaze,
A very good portrayal of a Brown's fans nightmare. You answered my question perfectly. I think having Quinn and Anderson is good because of depth but it could be the doom also... I think a good start by the Browns is imperative. If they start 2-0 boy the Browns may win the division and really compete for the AFC crown. I think an 0-2 start will start the QB controversy and in the NFL today that is not a good thing!
What happends if Quinn outplays Anderson in the Preseason and training camp?
