This is now looking like a final four team similar to that Kruger had at Florida! Made in the mold of an SEC type team. Our Defense will be outstanding and with Hamga in the back erasing everything you can get out and pressure the ball even harder!
The 08-09 team is good but in 09-10 we will be tall and athletic!
Staters
PG Jasper(still to be determined) 6'6
SG Willis 6'3
SF Shaw 6'8
PF Massamba 6'10
C Hamga 7'0
What a starting lineup! 3 of the starters all shoot the 3 well!
Bench
Wallace 6'4
Santee 6'8
Mitchell 6'5
Bellfeild 6'1
Hawkins 6'3
Lopez 6'10
Possible Rebels
EJ 6'2 -6'3
Marshal 6'2-6'3
Ash 6'8
Trent 6'8
Cant wait to see the Mack rockin again!

The only thing holding me back from that thought is our youth and all the new faces.

Once you're up in the top 25 on a steady basis, the biggest thing that affects each team is the intangibles. Will the 11 new faces in two years time form the same team chemistry? Will everyone remain injury free. Will we have a player or two that develops an attitude problem? Got to trust Kruger to handle most of that.
I just hope the Rebs aren't reading this board and getting to full of themselves. There's great talent coming in, and final fours are within the realm of possibility. But as stated by others, going undefeated is a tall order. We could have easily won 4 of the games we lost last year. But you have to show up hungry for every game, sometimes get lucky or unconscious (see TCU in the MWC Tourney), never overlook anyone and just be on your "A" game, every game, to go undefeated.
I can see the possibility of loosing 3 non-con games. I can also see the Rebels loosing 3 in conference. But that being said, they could do better. I think the talent level on the '09 team stands to improve. I'm hooking my hopes on that team to make some serious noise in the MWC and the NCAA's. Right now, there is no indication of how BYU will reload after this season. SDSU has not signed anyone to take up the slack of the mass exodous in talent they will have this year. UNM is picking up good recruits and should be strong. But right now, UNLV should be the pre-season conference pick for '09. If Jasper comes and a few other recruits interested in UNLV sign on, this could be a dangerous team.

I totally agree that it has to be done on the court but this is the 1st time in a long time that on paper we have looked like a team that can make a run. The sweet 16 Rebels were great and competed like crazy but didnt look like this. If we can continue to compete like we do along with this skill level the sky is the limit. Not trying to be a homer but I think if you did a blind comparison, like they do around tourney time with records, sos, ect..... UNLV would compare favorably with the top national programs. Everyone has called UNLV a sleeping giant and imo it has been awoken by LK and his staff!

I know. I guess I am just guarding against disappointment with expectations at such a fever pitch. The last thing I want to be is "down" because the Rebels finished 29-8 after the NCAA's. I think we'll even be stronger in the next few seasons, and don't want to risk an emotional let down over high expectations for this season. I can't wait for the season to begin! You know this is a real good team, but on the court is the only way to prove it. This could be a 33-5 team if everything went right. But how many times have you seen everything go right?

I along with everyone else here is excited about the future of this team, but I think we just might be getting a little ahead of ourself. Yes the possible talent coming in should give us a possible sweet 16 teams for years to come, but until we can get 4 and 5 starts recruits on a regular basis, like a UNC, Duke, UCLA, Kansas we should lower our expectations just a tad bit. With the expectations we are putting on this UNLV team, I feel that we will only be disappointed come tournament time.

I'm with you Kore. Final four teams are typically loaded with all americans who gel together, are well coached, and a superstar freak of nature type of player. We aren't quite at that level and will probably take a few years to get there. However, I do think the elite 8 could be obtainable as long as we don't get a terrible draw. This is the first season that missing the tourny or a 1st round exit would be a major disappointment (if we stay healthy) which is insanely significant.

haha sounds more like a sweet 16 team no way you guys are in the final four you got a good team but no where near ucla, tennessee, texas, duke, north carolina, gorgetown, purdue, michagan state, wisconson, Louisville, or notre dame sorry you guys need a reality check by the way I know sdsu is worse than all these teams also so it is not a homer opinion

Well SDfan, at least we have reason to be optimistic for this season, and future seasons. We have enough recruit commitments to take us a long way. You better enjoy this season. You should have 20+ wins, but the future of SDSU basketball gets very cloudy after '08-'09. I think Fisher will have to look to Juco's to fill in the gap with Watkins out of the picture. Good Luck.
