Right again Mano. I would love for the Browns to look at Kevin Jones!! But I do not think we will pull the trigger. Phil Savage made it clear that he was not concerned at RB when he did not take Mike Hart in the 6th round. I was pissed. There is no way if Lewis goes down that Wright or Harrison can be feature backs. RB is our thinnest position.
I tried earlier to pull you back into the TE debate but you must have missed it.

Mano--
I don't believe running back is a major concern. Jason Wright/Jerome Harrison did not conjure memories of Jim Brown back there but they were serviceable. Good enough to handle the load while Jamal was injured.
Hopefully our line is improved enough that even average running backs can look good. The Steelers used to know what that was like.
I wouldn't mind either of the players suggested in a limited back up role if they came in with no guarentees for the future. SA is at the end of his career can could fill in nicely for Jamal. Kevin Jones is still young but injury prone.
We need a back of the future and he is not on the roster yet. Neither of these guys have much of a future. This should really be addressed next off season.

Sorry britton, I was embroiled in the QB situation.
Was it you that said that if Ben had his choice he'd take K2 over Heath? I remember wanting to reply to that comment but not getting the chance. I keep seeing the receiving stats for K2 vs. Heath as evidence of K2 being a better receiver, and therefore, TE. Not sure that I agree with that being the key piece of evidence in determining whether or not he is a better football player than Heath Miller. They are not Wide Receivers. While receiving is certainly a part of their job, it is not the only part of their job. Every team uses its TEs in different ways. I don't think that the Steelers would have ever drafted K2 in the first place because he doesn't fit the mold of a Steelers TE. The Steelers offensive system requires the TE to be a blocker first and a receiver second. The fact that Heath was capable of being both of those guys equally was the reason he was the Steelers first round pick in 2005. Heath doesn't have the speed of K2, but he did outrun a DB to the endzone on an 85 yard touchdown in 2006. To say that he can't stretch the field is untrue. He regularly does just that. He doesn't get split wide like K2, or some of the other pass catching TEs in the league. He makes all of his plays from the LoS or sometimes from the backfield as an H-Back. He's a 3 down, hard nosed, tough as nails TE with great hands and good speed. He is a Steelers TE and I wouldn't be so sure that Ben would take K2 over him.

Should the Browns be looking into some of these free agent running backs? A guy like Kevin Jones or Shawn Alexander I wouldn't mind getting Kevin JOnes at the right price, but I suspect there would be more reality checks threads posted by your Steeler brethren. Shaun Alexander is too soft and I wouldn't want him.

I agree that both do different things for their teams. However, I just think people in general underestimate what his "soldier" attitude brings to this team. I said it earlier that the Browns have notoriously been a "soft" team and he brings a hard nose don't F with me or my boys. The Browns really need this and on top of that he is a great WR/TE that has also gotten much better in the past couple of years as a blocker as well. I am just wondering what else Miller brings to the table other than attitude, speed, hands and above average blocking. I know that Miller is a very capable TE is just don't think that he is a SOLDIER like K2. That is all... prove me wrong.
I am bumed... have to out of town back to North Wisconsin/Canada for a few days and hope I don't miss too much on the greatest Thread of all time. Come on Mano, SAStovell, Gmiller21, BeanCities, Geno and brownskid keep it warm for me when I get back will ya. Go Browns!!!!!!

Not to harp on this subject since we have moved on since...but here is an article I read today on FOX sports...
The Cleveland Browns, the best 10-win team not to make the playoffs a year ago, wisely spent their money and attention on defense in the off-season. If Romeo Crennel can motivate Shaun Rogers, the ex-Lion defensive tackle, to become a force for 16 games instead of eight, Cleveland can win the AFC North. Ex-Packer Corey Williams provides pass-rush muscle at defensive tackle, too. There is too much upheaval in Baltimore and Cincinnati for those teams to be factors in 2008, plus Cleveland has the best quarterback situation in the division because Brady Quinn is ready to play if Derek Anderson struggles.
Anderson was horrible in the late-season loss to the Bengals, but so was offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski's play-calling. With a season of experience, both should improve this year. Receivers Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow are Pro Bowl stars and left tackle Joe Thomas is already one of the game's best pass blockers. Jamal Lewis was a pleasant surprise and if his legs keep churning, the Browns should score over 400 points once again. We should know early with the season-opening game against the Cowboys how far Cleveland will go

Sorry Britton, while his soldier act may be needed in the Browns locker room, it wouldn't be welcomed or needed in the Steelers locker room. We have some soldiers already, and they play defense. It's hard to take a guy who catches the ball seriously when he acts like that. His whole game is predicated on trying to avoid being hit, avoid the violence inherent to the game, and yet he considers himself a soldier? Sorry, I'll let the James Harrison's and LaMarr Woodley's be the soldiers for the Steelers. At least they have some credibility. lol.
I agree with the rest of you that Kevin Jones could be a good fit for the Browns. I have never been a big Shawn Alexander fan. Even when he when he had his MVP season I thought he was soft. KJ, though, is a gamer who gives a great effort on every play. If he can stay healthy he would be a good addition.
