I think all of us cub fans should wake up and look at the big picture.....this news could very well spell the end of the Chicago Cubs playing in Wrigley Field in the not too distant future.
Without a binding lease between two parties The new Owner(s) can very well decide that its better to have a brand new stadium north of the city paid for by the tax payers or a combination of taxpayer and private funding, as opposed to playing in an outdated, crumbling, venue that while historic, has very little potential for drastic improvements...
Don't get me wrong, I love Wrigley Field, as Cub fans its a part of who we are, but today's
news could be its demise someday...

Key words crumbling and need of repairs.  Hopefully drastic improvements might be in the new owners plans.  A  new stadium with the name Wrigley Field?  Probably not.

Wait, so the Trib is going to sell Wrigley and the Cubs together, and the new owner is going to spend MORE THAN 400 million on Wrigley itself - and then move the team to a new stadium?  Seriously? That is impossible to believe.

The Cubs without Wrigley are, well, the White Sox.  Or the Brewers.  Moving the team - unless the new owners received the stadium for free - would be a financial negative.  They wouldn't sell out, wouldn't demand the ticket prices they get and wouldn't see as much residual revenue.  Any of the ownership groups are either Chicago people or Mark Cuban - who would never move from the Golden Calf that is Wrigley.

The Cubs are known nationally.....not only that, with the revenue generated from the new park they'd make a killing...let's not forget, these aren't the Cubs of old, they're a pretty good team last time I looked...they'll sell out a new park....plus you've got to figure in the cost the new  owners will have to incur to renovate Wrigley (probably ripping down the grandstand and building a new one), not to mention the logistic nightmare of coordinating at least a season of playing at the cell while the work is done....that's where the new owners would incur substantial losses....who would want to travel to 35th and shields to watch a game when you could still go to Clark and Addison with the knowledge that a brand new baseball experience is on the horizon in say, Buffalo Grove....makes perfect sense to me....nothing lasts forever...

Here's my opinion and problem with building a new stadium.  All the new ones are without a historic looking ball park.  Wrigley Field is one of a kind and if they, the new owners, take that away from Chicago it would be devasting.  I remember walking up the ramp and into a new, pard me for saying, a new world looking at the beautiful vines and field.

On the other hand, changes happen in every day life.  I just hope they find a solution that benefits the fans and the Chicago Cubs.
