I've never been on this message. But I figured that since our two teams (seemingly) will be clashing soon. Now would be a good time for us to get acquainted. I guess from what I saw on the home page. You guys have the busiest board. That's killer. And I think we're #2 or 3.

Well let me just start by saying, that I think the Red Wings are a class organization. (Except for the octopai. I'm sorry. But that sh*t's just gross. LOL). And it's gonna be an honor to play such a storied hockey club (with such a HUGE championship history) in the Stanley Cup Finals. And it should (hopefully) be a great series.

But I have to be honest. I really don't see the Penguins beating the Wings. Don't get me wrong. I believe in my team. And I believe they can beat any team in the league. But I'm what most would either call a realist. Or a fool. And alot of fellow Pens fans hate me for it. I'm just not one of those bonehead fans who like to talk trash saying that we're gonna kill you guys. When I know down deep inside that that's probably not gonna happen. And I watched you guys play last night. You guys are just awesome!

The only way I see us pulling this off is for the Penguins to completely surprise the Red Wings. (And that's gonna be more easily said than done). Essentially taking them out of their game. I think game one will be integral. We HAVE to get at least a split in Detroit. But you never know. We do have some talented players on our team. With the likes of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marian Hossa, Petr Sykora, Jordan Staal, Ryan Malone, Sergei Gonchar, and Marc-Andre Fleury. To name a few. But it seems that for every great player we have. You guys have one of your own. ESPECIALLY on defense. AND offense. AND special teams. And in net. With a group consisting of Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen (how's he doing by the way?), Brian Rafalski, Tomas Holmstrom, Nicklas Lidstrom, and let's not forget about Chris Osgood.

So hopefully all of that combined has the makings of a great series. Again, I say "HOPEFULLY". But I just wanted to come on here and wish you guys good luck on the remainder of your series vs. the Stars. And good luck in the Stanley Cup Finals.

LET'S GO PENGUINS!!!

pengo51......very classy post.  I hope its a great series as well and I don't underestimate the Penguins at all.  Obviously, they have a great team.  They are young, so I hope that will be an advantage for the Wings.

I'm hoping the Wings will just play their style of game.  If so, I have confidence that they'll win the series.....but I'm not cocky at all.  It will be a tough task.

GO WINGS!!!

I agree.  Very classy post Pengo.  I think this is going to be a GREAT matchup and I, too, am hoping for a great series.  This could easily be a seven game series or a 4 or 5 game series where each game is decided by one goal.  Either way it will make for great playoff hockey and I cannot wait to see every minute of it.

Good luck and see you in the Finals!

Thanks for being a classy person with an open mind! I grew up in PA. I am a native but moved away 9 years ago. I just became a hockey fan 2  1/2 years ago. My best friend was a Goalie in Grand Rapids.....I have not missed one televised game since, even travelled to Nashville to see my first NHL game!

I look forward to conversing about the sereis, Personally,  I just take it one game at a time, I never speculate...superstitious I guess!

Good luck!

Thanx mac daddy. Yeah, this should be one for the ages. That's why I'm hoping for all the best from both teams. If we lose..... We lose. And honestly, there's not a better team in the west I'd rather lose to than Detroit. That may sound cryptic or morbid. But it's true. I would just hope that the Penguins can make, not a good, but a GREAT series out of it. Cuz with as cryptic as it may sound. It would be an honor to lose to the Red Wings. Not in four, but in six or seven games. "A GREAT SERIES"! And if we win??? It would just be THAT MUCH nicer.

LET'S GO PENS!!!

Very true. Very true ral0618. In fact, wouldn't it be great for the Penguins and the Red Wings to develop a Stanley Cup series matchup that lasts throughout the next decade. Where they meet eachother three or four times. Great highlight footage for years to come. Great hockey history. Great for hockey.

And thanks to you as well djredwings. Class all around from each and every one of you.

I know there are meat heads from every pro sports team alive. But you just can't imagine the type of classless, clueless posting that has gone on for the last couple of weeks between us and Philly fans. And even Rangers fans for that matter. And with all fairness and respect to the Rangers' and Flyers' fanbase..... The Penguins have had just as many boneheads spewing out hatemail as they have. Hell, I've even said a few things out of spite. But usually only in response to someone elses cheapshots. (At least that's how I see it. LOL). But I'm sure even the Red Wings have their share of trash talkers. It's unavoidable. It's just nice, every once and a while, to have an intelligent conversation with true hockey fans like yourselves. I'm glad we could start off on the right foot..... NOW LET'S PLAY SOME STANLEY CUP HOCKEY!

GO PENGUINS!!!

I think this will probably be one of the best finals in several years (I would think that just because of the wings being in it) but these two teams have been spectacular pretty much all season long. I said two years ago that the Penguins were gonna be good for years to come and that it wouldn't be long til they were playing for the cup. I think it will be much closer than you think pengo. Hopefully with these two teams playing, there will be great ratings and ESPN will see what they are missing out on.

Go Wings

And last, but certainly not least. Thanx to you pennstfan4ever. Man, it sure is tough to discuss Penguins hockey with a Pennsylvania native who is a Red Wings fan. But I'll try and get through it, LOL.

I too am superstitious. Sometimes I think I need 12 step meetings to stop being like that. Sorry about the loss to the Stars tonight. They came out with a purpose. But I'm sure the Red Wings will bouce back and take it in five at home.

I'm not THAT disappointed though. Every loss Detroit takes can only help out my Penguins. (Provided they can put the Flyers away in four). An extra days rest, is an extra days rest. Because even though the Pens have only had to play twelve out of a possible seventeen games. (Up to this point). Every series has been a physical one. Especially these last two versus the Rangers and the Flyers. Just as I'm sure all of the Red Wings games against the Predators, The Avalanche and the Stars have been physical as well. But I can't comment on those as I haven't viewed each and every game.

But anyway, good luck in game five. Don't make us wait TOO long for you guys. LOL. Nah just kidding. We haven't won ANYTHING yet. Hopefully tomorrow we can take the east.

GO PENGUINS!!!

Right on tigersfan728. I couldn't agree with you more. ESPN's gotta pull their head out.

I guess the thing that kind of frightens me the most is just plain old history. Most recently, last years finals matchup. The Senators and the Ducks looked like a guaranteed seven game series. And what happened? The Senators were completely outclassed. And I'm not saying that the same thing will happen to the Penguins vs. the Red Wings. Or vise versa. History just sometimes has a way of repeating itself. Let's just hope it doesn't repeat itself THIS season. LOL.

That's why I'm hoping for a solid showing from Pittsburgh. Cuz when I look back on the Ducks vs. Devils series a few years back. That was one helluva series. The Ducks fought hard all the way. But came up just a little bit short. But just a few short years later..... They would return to the cup finals and prevail. I just don't want to be one of those teams that were hot all playoffs long. Then get swept in the finals. Cuz you know what happens after that? Just ask Ottawa. And we definately have to play solid if we want to have ANY hope of signing Marian Hossa. Which is someone I REALLY would like to have long term. He's shown that he belongs in a Penguins uniform. But that all may just be a pipe dream. Good luck in game five.

Pengo51, good luck to you tonight. I appreciate you coming out here without trash talk. You are only the second pens that I have talked to. The first was a piece of crap with little or no knowledge about the sport of hockey and its history. I have watched every Pens/Flyers game so far in the series and most of the pens other games. Your game play is very similar to Detroits, a combination of smart passes and charges to the net. In a way, I envy the Penguins super-young age yet tremendous skill of players. Evgenii Malkin, Sydney Crosby, Marian Hossa, Petre Sykora can light it up out there.

I agree with you all, these finals, if it is to be Pens vs. Wings, will be the very best in years. Pleased to meet you too and I hope to see you soon on an "Official Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Detroit Red Wings Thread".

I've already seen a few Red Wings fans over on the Pens board talking trash, saying that the Pens aren't in the same league as the Wings.  It's nice to see that at least here, the fans of both teams are getting off on the right foot!  Nice post Pengo, as you are always a classy poster.  And as for all you Red Wings fans, it's very nice to see you reciprocating.  Very classy all around!  Good luck to you guys as you try to close things out against the Stars and hopefully we'll see you soon!

Go Pens!

P.S. While things are all friendly now, I do hope for some good trash talking later (not in a malicious way) - as it's so much fun to do!
