Little different scenario now though. More like the beginning of '06 for the Yanks than the end. And more like the beginning of '06 for the Sox as well, although they held 1st unchallenged until after the ASB, I'm pretty sure.
Bottom line is it sucks when you lose 2 of the most important cogs in your lineup for an extended period, but it's preferred that it happen now.
I mean, has no one been paying attention to the fact that the Yankees have played .600+ ball in the second half for 4 years now? And intact, this offense scored 970 runs last year.
To be only 4.5 out after what's transpired is pretty damn fortunate. Whether they can get their act-and team-together and make it mean something later remains to be seen.
