Duck,
I imagaine Lou will have strict instructions sent with Felix Pie to AAA. I would also ventrure to guess there will be some kind of hitting instructor that worked with him in Chicago, go to Iowa with him.

The Cubs want to win now and it's coming at the expense of Felix's progress. All they have doing is winning. So lets see if we can screw that up.

Something all of you with man-crushes on Pie are missing - Lou does know what he is doing with this team and if he thought playing the Dominican Blunder on a regular basis would make him better, I am sure he would do it. You don't come to the majors to improve your game, you come because you can play. As much as I hate the Dirty Birds, Jimmy can play even if he is off right now. Reed Johnson can play, thats why he is playing every day. Soriano can play, Thats why he is still in Cubbie Blue (along with $136 mil in reasons). Have faith in Lou, I am sure Hendry consulted him befoore making this move.
Go Cubs - Hope Jimmy E breaks it off in the Pad's today!

That is true, but they're trying to balance out the batting order. This is going to be an interesting couple of weeks with Edmonds. I'm curious what the reaction will be like when he starts to struggle or make a bad read on the ball defensively in Center? I know the reaction will be cheers and applause if he has any success.

Well I hope Lou knows what he's doing. The problem with Pie is that he's proven that he can play at any other professional level. You need time to develop at the Majors.

A few stats for your digestion on Hollywood:
2007: Avg = .252, OBP = .325, HR = 12, AB/SO = 4.9
2006: Avg = .257, OBP = .350, HR = 19, AB/SO = 3.5
2005: Avg = .263, OBP = .385, HR = 29, AB/SO = 3.4
Would Pinella/Hendry be satisfied with a .240 hitter who strikes-out every 5th AB and hits a HR once every 30 AB's while downgrading your CF defense???

I think some are missing Lou's point about Pie. Now, all of you know I am of the play the kid camp. But, Lou really feels this team can win it all. Hendry is under pressure with the pending sale to have that title or at least a WS appearance on his resume for the new owners, or his next stop. Lou has been quoted as saying the big leagues are not a proving ground. When you come up and get your oppotunities, you have to produce.
Felix Pie, as much as I am intrigued by his skills, has not produced. I don't believe he has been given a fair chance. But, it's obvious that Lou has zero patience for a player that cannot give him a professional AB.
I could be PR, or Lou could be sincere when he says he likes Pie and loves his attitude. He points out that he himself spent 6 years toiling in the minors. He says he wants Pie to refine his approach and his swing and next time, he won't be sent back.
Jim Edmonds is a flyer. Nothing more nothing less. He could produce and stick or wind up being unceremoniously released.
For Hendry the stakes are high, career wise. For Lou, it's in his DNA to go hard after a title he feels he can win. Remember how miserable and cranky he was in Tampa Bay? The bottom line is, the development of Pie was not going to trump those two realities. A different team with lesser expectations may have played Pie until he figured it out. While this is not a team behaving despeartely, it is a team that has a burning desperation to win it this year. A 23 year old kid, that Lou was not going to play, is the one who takes the hit. Let's hope Felix means it when he says Ia m young and I have to learn. Let's hope he is not adversely effected, takes the instruction, and proves to be what the Cubs still think he can be. But, more than anything, let's hope his desire burns as desparately as it does in Lou Piniella. If so, then Pie will be fine.
