The Saints’ offseason moves have been directed mostly at revamping their defense, which was in dire need of an infusion of speed and athleticism, and it appears they have collected the parts necessary to improve the unit. However, just how much better the defense will be is hinging on some not-so-reliable parts, including MLB Jonathan Vilma’s knee, which kept him out for half of last season, MLB Dan Morgan’s fragile body and DE Charles Grant’s left ankle, which underwent surgery in January to repair a torn ligament. If Morgan is healthy and able to contribute, it will be considered a luxury, but Vilma and Grant are being counted on to start. Additionally, DE Will Smith is threatening to hold out if he doesn’t receive a new contract. It’s a dangerous strategy for New Orleans to count on so many potential question marks, and one that could come back to haunt them if some of these feeble bodies don’t hold up.

DR, I see in  your avatar you kinda took a liking to Carl Nicks. That dude is a beast, hopefully we have another Jahri Evans on our hands with him

I am sorry but I have to agree with the article. I am a huge Dan Morgan fan. The fact is though, the Saints LBs are pretty beat up. Vilma is young and I think he will heal nicely but Morgan is injury prone, Grant has been going down in his production in the past three seasons, and Will Smith (in my opinion is going to be resigned) could be gone next year. Possibly franchised and then traded like Jared Allen. I think everything is going to gel together this season. The post season might be a little scary especially if the Saints do not re-sign Colston. I expect good things from the defense this year.

bygkev, well I'm not much for changing my avatar, but this guy may make us all believers. DR will be back soon enough!

601, I hope your wrong on all accounts, but I am a realist and yes it does scare me that next year we have alot FA.  I hope smith is resigned before training camp this year.  The other good news is that our cap should be ok.

In Loomis I trust.

Good article bygkev & nice avatar btw....she beats the hell out of your old Jonathan Vilma avatar any day.

Back to the topic of discussion....this guy is only saying what some of us are thinking in the back of our heads.  He has a very valid point about some of the key players on our defense.  If they aren't healthy, we'll need Drew Brees & Co. to put up at least 35 points every week.  On the other hand, like "nightshade" said, if all the pieces come together....WATCH OUT!!!

Why don't we have a little patience with these guys, before we agree with the a-hole's assessment of the Saints off-seasons moves guys. I for one look at the glass half-full. We darn sure cannot be any worse than we were last year, since we have most  of the guys that played still on the team. Sedrick Ellis by himself is going to make our defensive line better. Jonathan Vilma on one leg is going to be better at middle linebacker than we had last year. Dan Morgan if he plays one game will be better at weakside linebacker than anyone we have on the roster right now.  Will Smith will be in camp before the season starts, and i would think Charles Grant had better be in shape and ready to go by training camp. So all this is just more crap to stir up leading up to training camp.
