The ESPN power rankings came out yesterday and the Skins are in the 14th spot. I think this is a pretty fair place for them to be. There are a few teams that are ahead of us that I would argue aren't as good if the team hadn't had to pretty much overhaul the coaching staff and the change to the WCO wasn't made. With the new coaches and the new offense and Zorn never having been a head coach before I think 14 is about right at the moment. I think we can jump way up early in the season if the offense gels the way it can and the defense is as good as it was last year!

What do you guys think?

What bothers me is that we behind the Eagles. they finish 8-8 last year. They finish 2-4 in the division! And they did not improve on the offensive side of the ball nor address any real needs in the off-season! The Redskins at least address the WR spot. We might not have gotten the DE but we were still a top 15 defense last year with having a real DE pass rusher opposite of Carter.

However, I think 14 is a decent spot for the Skins. We still have alot to prove on Offense but we know that defense will be solid because much will not change. I see the Skins maybe moving up as high as maybe 8 if the Offense is playing better than anyone could predict. If they hanging around 10 to 14 they will still be in pretty good shape.

Either way they have us ranked last in the NFC East.  But these lists are never even close, especially the ones made this early.  I thought they were awfully generous to the Saints, having them at 11.  And the Packers at 10 seems a little high considering the loss of Brett Favre.

The Redskins have question marks everywhere.  The defense won't be better I don't think.  Will it be worse?  Can we stay healthy on the offensive line?   Can we score points?

skins bowlbound,

The Eagles added Asante Samuel

I would probably put the Redskins last in the NFC East now (although I do think they will make the playoffs {and yes I know that is a contradiction, but on paper I think we are the worst team in the division}), however I think I would put them in 1st place in any other NFC division.

Bsam, one player cannot make a difference in a lineup.  Besides, Asuante samuel is washed up.  It shows, when even the best team in football got rid of him.

Evidently, people don't see the Redskins as having good talent like the rest of the East teams.  But people forogt that they are a part of this division too.  the Eagles learned a hard lesson the second game of the season last year.  You cannot sleep on anyone in this division, and people always seem to sleep on the Redskins lik they have no talent, then when the Redskins suprise them and pull off an upset, they say it was the other team.  We ave been losing for too long and I agree that it is live or die.  The Redskins have to win this season.  The reason is because Jansen is getting old, Samuels is getting old, Griffen is getting old and so is Griffen.  I dont want to have to go through another 10 years of rebuilding.  So if we want to win, it hasto be today.

all due respect cj2887,  how could you say Asante Samuel is washed up?  He's 26 years old and playing the best football of his career.  He had six INTs last year and one for a touchdown.  He is in the argument for best corner in the league with the likes of Champ Bailey and Al Harris.  I guess you're just mad because he went to the Eagles, as I am as well, but WASHED UP?   That's a tough argument to make.

I know that they added him but what did he bring to the team that was already tough on defense and had a good cover guy in Lito. They had question on offense. Westbrook got banged up and the offense struggled when he was hurt. The WR's could not get off the line when they were pressed on the line because they were small like Skins receivers. Now they have a couple of guys up front and at Linebacker that are young and aside from Trent Cole they get no pressure on the QB so just like Denver did last year with Bailey and Bly, you struggle to cover when the QB has all day. Plus they play a man to man defense and Samuels played in a system that was zone based in a 3-4 where the Linebackers were smart than these young linebackers right now. I am not saying that we have questions but I think the Eagles had the same problem we did with no red zone threat for McNabb to get the ball to or a big time receiver. Kevin Curtis is a good receiver but he is not a #1 for their offense.

cj2887 there is a difference between being a rooting fan and a blind homer, unfortunately it sounds like you fall on the latter.

skinsbowlbound, I read your previous post wrong, I though you said they didn't improve the D.  There O will improve as McNabb gets further away from the surgery.

again I think the skins will make the playoffs and I hope they follow the tradition of following up a Giants superbowl with one of their own.

Pat kirwin on NFL radio does a "smell test" to judge where your team is in its divison.  Rank your QB (Campbell is 4th best) then rank your D (probably 3rd and in the conversation for 2)
