Check out this 2009 mock draft.

I've got my sights on Rey Maualuga, but look at the guy they've got the Saints taking. Not too shabby. Perhaps not a need next year, or at least I hope it wouldn't be, but nevertheless a pretty imposing defensive player.

I disagree with them having us drafting 14th that would mean another 7-9 or 8-8 year

I agree Shade! No way!  The only reason we were 7-9 last year was because we started 0-4 and Deuce got hurt.

Most 2009 mock drafts I see have us taking Alex Mack or William Moore

I agree, I'm not a fan of the number they've got us at. But that's just it, an extremely early  mock draft based on our 2008 pick which was 10 and the changes that we've made and where that would likely get us.  Fun to speculate about anyway.

This is a complete joke...this mock has the Cards, Texans, Buccaneers, Bills and the entire NFC east finishing with better records then us this year.  The former 4 teams are all terrible and if they even finish the season within 2 Wins of the Saints I would be surprised.  As for the entire NFC East I would have expected that 4 teams in the same division cant all finish with 9+ wins right?  I am not going to look at another mock draft until these kids actually start playing games again in Fall '09 semester.

I agree with DD, is this saying the Cowboys are going to win the superbowl?  That's BS.  I also don't see us taking a DE in the 1st round, unless we don't re-sign Will Smith.

This is based solely on this proposed mock draft.

First, if we don't resign Will Smith after we gave Grant all that money that will be a blunder of, well, most of the Saints' history proportions.  Smith is a Pro Bowl DE (behind QB and possibly LT the most coveted position to have talent at).  We all know (or at least should) that you HAVE to get pressure on the QB or it doesn't matter how good your secondary is; they will get beat.  You cannot expect anyone to guard an NFL receiver for 20+ seconds.  See last year, we didn't get pressure on the opposing QBs and made our weak secondary look downright terrible.

Second, there is no way I would want us taking a player from the Big East.  I would've hated it if we took Jenkins from the same school this year (time will tell if thats a good thought or not), they simply do not play competition that merits first round selections.

Last, I don't think that DE will be our most glaring need even if Smith leaves (we did just sign McCray) it's gotta be another DB (unless someone steps it up this year) or another LB to add depth (for the same reason).

this site has no credibility with myself, first the draft order is way off from what i would project on all accounts-then i'm sorry but if the only LSU players that are taken in rd 1 are #31 and #32 i will be extremely surprised...... you've got those guys, D Byrd and darry beckwith, ciron black that could all be first rounders

Utterly ridiculous

I guess he would be a good player but we should be set at DE for awhile.  At least I hope so . . . .

Just for kicks, check out this mock draft from another site for 2009:

http://walterfootball.com/draft2009.php

I don't like the pick but the draft position is pretty good (25th).  I am intrigued by the FS from Missouri named Moore.  Hmmm. . . . .

Did I say Moore?

How about USC's Taylor Mays? I think we will be too far down in the first round to grab him, but man does he look impressive.

Check out some of his info on wikipedia:

Way too early for that kind of stuff yet Saintsfan82.  But i would like to commend all of the posters on their great diverse AVATAR'S. I think we have some of the best and most original of all the teams on the CBS message boards.
