Well, behind Ryan Dempster's outstanding performance, the Cubs took 3 of 4 from San Diego, 3 of 3 from Arizona, and now they get three AT HOME against the Pirates, who the Cubs are a perfect 6-0 against this season, outscoring them 52-24...we also don't have to face Ian Snell, probably their best starter. (Oh and by the way, we have three more against the Pirates to end next week, as well). In between series we get the second place Houston Astros...we end the month against the struggling Dodgers and Rockies...if all goes well, our division lead could be significant come the start of June. Go Cubbies!!!

Nice outlook but I take each game at a time. It's a better approach. Worry about the record after the month is over. Here's to Gallager's next start.

True, true...but you can't tell me you like that schedule to end the month too! Obviously anything can happen from game-to-game...we'll see what happens!

i dont see anything wrong with zackey being a little excited with the upcoming scedule.  I dont think lou piniella and the Cubs would be overly concerned if one fan is looking into the future.  so who are we to tell him how to look at the scedule.

Good call Zacky, with that schedule it is a great time for the Cubs to maintain some momentum and gain some confidence.  I am especially hoping for our promising young starter Shawn Gallagher to get a couple quality starts over this stretch.

I for one am also excited about the currert state of affairs with this team.  We are really starting to click.  A few weeks ago people were wondering when Sori or A-ram was going to start hitting and that has began to change.  We have such a great depth of players right now.  With D Lee in a mini slump we are still able to score alot of run. I just hope those Astros slow down.  It will be a good match up next week when we visit Houston.

This Pirate team has been playing some good baseball as of late.  And that Astros team is red-hot, so it's going to be interesting for the Cubs if they can maintain their pace.

I am just upset that I went to Tuesday's game and we lost.  Other than that, these Cubbies are on fire and pitching gems.  Let's just not blow our lead like the Mets did last year.  It's still early.

Oh man GSH!! Never mention the Cubs possiblity of blowing a lead in the standings with the Mets in the same sentence, bad mojo! I wasnt even alive in '69 and the thought of the Cubs blowing it and having the Mets overtake them is depressing. Come on Cubbies, this is our year!

Well on may 9th I had the Cubbies going 14-8 to finish out the month.  A 6-1 start is sweet but I hope they don't finish the run 8-7 to meet my prediction.

As for the Bucco's & Stro's I am not as impressed.  They've beat up on the likes of Wash, San Fran, LA & StL... I love the pitchers we get to face in the matchups, especially when we are in Houston to bludgeon Moehler, Sampson & Chacon.  Pitt took it to ATL for 3 outta 4 but they were close games; 3-2, 5-2 & 5-0.  The shut out came from Duke, who we will face, but he gave up 5 hits & 5 walks.  If we can chase Maddux hitting a bunch of singles then I like the idea of facing Duke @ home! We have shown ability to put up runs in the middle to late innings.  I gotta like our chances down a run or two when we can have Marmol come in & lock them down while we get a lead.

Cubs go at least 4-2 before we come back home for the lowly Dodgers & Rockies

Don't worry, my aspirations for September won't come until mid-August...haha! Yes, the Pirates and Astros are playing good ball. I suppose if the Cubs struggle over the next couple weeks I give you guys permission to criticize me, but at this point I'm just an optimistic Cubs' fan. I don't think my aspirations are too out of line. It's not like I stated that the Cubs will win 120 games or something...

By the way, did anyone else notice the AL East Standings? The Rays are in the first and the Yankees are in last! Gotta love that!

While I am excited as to where we are, I am just going to enjoy each game and not look too far ahead because beating up on teams with losing records doesn't always work out (Washington, Milwaukee, Cincinnatti)

ya know the Sced looks good. But I've learnd from playing when I was younger and listining to players in all sports. The common view point is to keep at the moment more. Each at bat, each game. Live in the now. That's the way I'm living. as a fan and person. I'm not thinking about next week. But it's cool to see that stuff.

But, I don't feel the Buc's are going to be a roll over team. They have been playing better. This start by Gallager could decide his fate on the team so here is good luck to his game.

16 more days in May and you're already talking about the Cubs "closing out the month!?"  Prior to this hot streak they had lost 4 straight series (9 of 13 games) to the Nationals, Brewers, Cardinals and Reds...not exactly juggernauts.

I hardly think the middle of May is the time to be talking like this.

Continue to root, root root for the Cubbies, but let's be realistic and worry about one game at a time...regardless of how sweet and easy their upcoming schedule looks to you, the Cubs still have to step on the field and play every game.
