Defensive tackle Rob Meier has agreed to a five-year contract extension. Meier is set to replace the departed Marcus Stroud in the starting lineup. Rob Meier is as good as Stroud, and i believe he will be a powerhouse this year.

Garrad,

I was just about to post this...you beat me to it, lol...Rob Meier is a VERY underrated player.  That's why the Jags didn't go after a DT in the draft.  They have good depth with Derek Landri and Tony McDaniels.  Plus if DT Kennedy shows promise, he could be a hidden gem.

The DT will be solid and the Dline has both age and youth at all positions (DT, DE).  We should be set.

I also think Meier will have a good year. But the guy I really want to see is Landri. I think if he added another 10 or so lbs he would be a beast.

Without my avatar making it too obvious, I think Landri's a beast. I definitely agree that he needs to add a little bit of weight though. He's a completely different type of player from Stroud though, he'll have to rely more on his quickness than his size. I'm happier with Meier starting though, and Landri coming in to add a spark when the rest of the D is tired.

Man, I need to get up on my current Jaguar events. I guess it's kinda hard when you don't live in Jacksonville anymore. So Rob Meier has accepted a five year deal. That is some great news. He is an underrated player but he is getting his just due.

Unfortunately, there is always another issue. Paul Spicer turned down the deal that the Jaguars proposed to him, and I could only figure it must have been a slap in the face for a 33 year old defensive end to say no to the deal. I said this in another feed that Spicer is coming off the best season of his career as a Jaguar, but he is not getting any younger. I hope he just takes the next deal, which is probably a three year deal, then possibly call it quits.

Rob Meier obviously can't compare to Marcus Stroud when he was in his prime, but Meier has proven to be the more consistent DT, and he will be a solid starter, especially with big John right next to him. I see we still have Grady Jackson on our roster as of right now, and I wish we'd give him a 1 year deal, but I don't think I'm gonna get my wish on that one. Him and Meier were really good subbing in and out for each other.

Good for Rob.  He's very under rated and he's waited in line for this opportunity.  Derek Landri is awesome, but Rob has been waiting for this.
