that is the name of this article on the Mariners blog Bleeding Blue and Teal.
www.bleedingblueandteal.com/05-2008/the-griffey-to-seattle-scenario/
unfortunately, the author doesn't seem connected enough to know specifically which prospects and/or players would be necessary to get the deal done (i don't think anyone does), but he does indicate players that might make the most sense on both ends.
the first question on everyone's mind: Jeff Clement is a real long shot. this should not surprise anyone i don't think. the author seems to think Kenji Johjima is a more likely piece in the deal, though still unlikely. he discusses several low-minors players (pitchers) who might be enough to get a deal worked out, perhaps including catchers Rob Johnson (AAA) or Adam Moore (AA). johnson is nothing to get worked up over, moore does have some upside.
the good news is that the mariners do have incentives for bringing in griffey, even though he is in the final year of his contract and is 38. as long as it might make business sense for them to do a deal, we have hope for the deal as well. just don't expect any top prospects or impact players.

Fella -- i just hope it happens soon. I'm tired of hearing about it now. He needs to go. If he wants to go, get him there.
Think they would take Dunn, too?

Last I saw, the Reds have at LEAST four or five top pitching prospects in the farm system now. How many more is enough if none of them are going to replace Frogg on the roster?
I have no problem sending Griffey anywhere his 1,500 pennies will take him.
But just getting a bunch more prospects might be a grinner for Jocketty, but the talent the team has in the minors isn't getting to the bigs because we keep signing Corey Patterson.

I read an article in which Jocketty said something to this extent: "If we bring him up, I'm afraid he won't get enough playing time. When we bring him up, we want him to play everyday". Is this a bash on Busty for not playing rookies or does he actually think sticking Corey Patterson in CF is better? I sure hope it's a bash on Busty... What's a simple solution you ask? Cut Patterdoosh! Freel can go back to his super-sub role and start Bruce in CF EVERYDAY. Is it really that complicated?

Don't get me wrong, I love prospects but if you are going to get rid of two vets like griff and dunn you can't just get young guys. You gotta get at least one solid vet in return. Having a young team is great for speed and gusto but you need a vet or two to teach them the intangibles.

Who better to learn from than Ryan Freel? He may not give the best tips on power hitting but he plays it the right way whenever he gets the chance. Scott Hatteberg would be a good mentor too, while he's still here anyway.

Having read the blog, the author does the one cardinal sin: He is trying to invent truths, which will never convince me he (or she) has thought this out beyond the wish that Griffey would, somehow, resurrect himself into greatness just long enough for the M's to ... I dunno ... be "good" again.
The only realistic scenario for Griff to go back to Seattle is sometime next year when he's decided to retire. He can go to the M's when the rosters expand. He has no legitimate trade value. This author believes Griffey has some mileage left and is somehow an upgrade. He isn't an upgrade. If a team needs to upgrade, you look for somebody who can help you.
As for him being a draw, pfffffffffffffffft .... I posted on another thread that even the Bats outdraw the Reds. So he ain't dragging people into the ballpark anymore, even in Cincy, where he is expected to be important. This author suggests he's a decent platoon player.
I DON'T THINK SO.
Griffey hopefully knows how to retire without being a substitute player.

good points johnU. i agree that it's more likely to see griffey leaving the team after the year than during. this being the last year of his contract really handcuffs us a great deal. as for your comment about young guys nati - everybody would like to get solid vets back in a trade if possible, but griffey just won't command that much in a trade. also, as far as the pitching prospects, they would likely be A-ball or AA guys, so there'd still be time to figure out their place in our system considering the logjam we have now. we could always turn back around and trade those guys for, i don't know, a catching prospect or MI prospect later on. we would essentially have turned griffey into a useful prospect in that scenario.
for my personal opinion, i don't think griffey will leave this year. jockety has said that he is not currently engaged in discussions with any teams about griffey. it's a strange situation to judge.
