You' d think San Antonio would have the decency to just lose so we could all pile on the CP3 bandwagon. I mean, geez, don't the Spurs know that losing to the Hornets is inevitable? C'mon, SA - you are yet again getting between a media darling and his entitlement of being "Magic's head in Isaiah's body" and "Jordan-like" and "the best PG on the planet".
The Spurs should be ashamed - costing the Association millions of dollars in Chris Paul airtime. On behalf of Spurs fans everywhere, I apologize. But you won't be getting the Kobe vs. Chris clash of the titans you want. I'm sorry to tell you that you're getting one more year of old school. One more year of Bowen and Horry and Finley and Barry playing a game they are just too old to play. One more year of the "35 and older" lunch bunch at the Downtown Y.
Every year the Spurs win is their last because of their age and lack of athleticism. So just like last year (and 1999, 2003, and 2005), this is it. The Silver and Black will start doing TV ads for FloMax and Levitra and CP3 can begin his coronation as the next guy who reminds us of the last guy. This is the Spurs last year. I promise....

Although I HATE the Spurs (Knicks/Mavs fan, live in Dallas) it's hard to argue against such a sound team. No doubt the Hornets have them in energy and athleticism, but the Spurs are the most fundamentally sound team in the league and also one of it's defensive bests. They were EXPECTED to win at home so I don't think New Orleans just blew the game away but now they come to New Orleans, and as dominant as the hornets have been there, I can definitely see the Spurs taking them out. HOWEVER, either way, I don't think either of these teams is beating the Lakers..Kobe is a man on a mission. And I give the Spurs a couple more years of being in the championship picture, Duncan is still good, has Parker cracked 30? Nobody can guard Manu! Those 3 alone and some decent pieces and they're fighting. Go Hornets!!!

Coming from a Utah fan, the Lakers haven't won just yet so keep that in mind. As for New Orleans I hope they win on Monday because if my team is able to get by LA they are DOA if they have to play the Spurs.

Oh yeah one more thing. Despite your sarcasm, gogobblers, The Spurs really are no fun at least as far as the Utah Jazz are concerned.

I am also a Jazz fan and hope they can pull out a miracle and win the next 2 games against the Lakers. I am also a realist and am planning that the Jazz will not be in the Conference finals against the Spurs or Hornets. That is fine and I have come to accept that the Jazz are not quite there yet. Maybe in 2 years we will see them in the finals?
However, please kill me if it is another Spurs/Pistons final. That is the real definition of "no fun". A Lakers/Celtics final would be a close second.

That is easy to say when the refs are letting Chris Paul travel and carry the ball all over. The Spurs should have been finishing them off in game 6 if the NBA didn't want to make money from forcing extra games.

Game 6 was a foregone conclusion to me. Spurs have way too much pride to lose at home. I'm in San Antonio now. These fans are fanatic about San Antonio. No way this series was ending in six.
You know the old saying, "To be the man you have to beat the man." People can call the Spurs boring and not fun. Guess what? They just win. That never would get boring to me. I'm an Auburn Tiger football fan. If we won every game 3-0 I'd be happy as all get out.
I just think there's something to be said that teams like the Pistons and Spurs have been the most consistent teams out there and they're called 'boring' when all the 'exciting' teams fold in the clutch.

In my opinion, the Spurs have always been a boring team to watch. They play a "team" game, they have no "stats hounds", and they play very solid defense. The public wants to see high scoring affairs and players scoring 40 or 50 pts or getting 20 assists or 20 rebounds. They want Kobe vs Chris Paul or LeBron, not Tim Duncan & Co. Unfortunately I'm a Bucks fan so I haven't watched much basketball this year. But I've been watching Kobe and Chris Paul tear up the playoffs and that would be a matchup I'd like to see. But if the Spurs are the better team, then so be it and I'll be tuning out.

I've tried gobblers believe me I've tried. I think you (and the rest of SpurNation) deserve the right to be pissed off as to how SA is received by the rest of the basketball community. Winning that many championships in that amount of time would undoubtedly lead to "dynasty" talk if it was any other team. But the fact of the matter is the Spurs really are (as you so sardonically put it) "no fun" to anyone outside of SA. I love basketball and can appreciate the fundamentals that Duncan has carved his stellar career out of. Parker has developed into a solid all-around PG after starting his career as the guy who could just beat everyone else down the floor. Finley is a class act and despite his propensity for flopping you can't deny Manu's shooting skills. All around, you have a great team that concentrates on winning games and doesn't make headlines any other way. Unfortunatley, that is also the problem. Whether you like it or not, professional basketball isn't just about the game itself, but is also about entertainment. The Spurs exceed at one end but totally lack at the other. Maybe it's the final testament to the kind of world we live in nowadays but most basketball fans (myself included) would much prefer to watch the Kobe's, Lebron's, CP3's, and Deron Williams' play. They bring entertainment as well as the spectacular skills to the game. Last years Finals rating were the lowest in years. I for one would like to say I stayed around to see them played out this year.

The whole myth of the "no-fun" defensive Spurs is laughable.
The Spurs do both offense & defense very well. The reason the Hornets are giving them fits is that the Hornets are similar in that vein also of a defense/offense team balance.
The Spurs are in fact an athletic high-flying high-scoring team when they have to be.
Whenever they play the high flying Suns, they beat the suns by dropping a fast-break 110 pts a game offense on them. (see 2005 for classic example)
Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli are offensive Wizards comparable to any other team's stars.
But, the Spurs can grind it out and play defense too that other offensive teams cannot.
Whenever they play teams like Cleveland & Detroit who grind it out. The Spurs adapt and win at that type of pace also.
..............
Don't blame the Spurs for bad games against defensive teams in the finals. They prove every year in the playoffs they can win 115-112 just as easily.
They just adapt to whatever pace of play.
THE HORNETS HAVE COPIED THIS FLEXIBLE STYLE VERY WELL.

These are the fans who probably think it's cool to scream when a guy does a nice dunk down by 20, well the Spurs don't scream when they are up by 20 and do something great. The new thing now is to grab the team name on your jersey and scream, see K.G. (although you better look quick as the C's might not be playing for too much longer), what the hell is this new trend??? I know what f****n team you play for!!! Win something and shut up already. There are many people out there, super ignorant ones, who give more respect to guys like Mcgrady, K.G., Nash and Nowitzki (Duncan's peers who haven't come close to sniffing a title, although close, Nowitzki choked) than Timmy, F-them. He is the best player of his generation, not agrueably the best power forward, best player that's it. And if you can't appreciate watching a team of low draft picks and cast-offs being built around an elite player into a truly great team then you don't have appreciation for true greatness. Does Tim Duncan look around for what teams he thinks are ready to win then force his way on them like Shaq? Does Pop do the Phil Jackson thing and look for teams with players about to go into their prime then jump on and use someone elses hard work and take the credit for himself. Do they need to go and get other teams all-stars, K.G., Ray Allen, Shaq, Gasol? No, No, and No!!! They draft low and turn those picks into gold while other high profile teams have to pilfer other rosters and then their fans act like they are so awesome, whatever. The fact is that society does not want nice guys who do things right to win, they want punks like Kobe to win, and I like to watch him too, great player. And maybe he'll win a title this year after almost tearing his team apart, and he'll probably get sportsman of the year, so who's messed up, Spurs fans or everybody else??? When we watch our Spurs we appreciate the beauty of the team game, not "He dunk ball, him good!", or "He score 50 and team still lose, team stink but he great!". Duncan could have been a brilliant individual player but understood "I have to get these kids Parker and Ginobli involved and develope their skills so some day we can have 3 guys who can dominate not just me with my 28ppg". Anyway sometimes it's like talking to a wall, people just don't understand.
GO SPURS!!!

I didn't think there were many people (outside of OSU fans) who thought that OSU was the best team last year or even stood a chance against LSU. The year before against Florida, yes, but not last year.
You know what? F the public, then. If it were winning me championships you're damn skippy that I'd keep doing it.
Crying like a little girl about how mistreated your poor Spurs are?? Shut up idiot, the Spurs are NO FUN!! They are horrible to watch and BORING!
And defending World Champs. Your exciting teams can't say that, can they? Look at the last few for that matter...Spurs, Heat, Spurs, Pistons, Spurs...would you describe them as fun or no fun? All with a big man in the center and a steady point guard. All played hard nosed defense and had role player journeymen that accepted backup roles. The fun teams were at home wondering what happened. I can tell you: the playoffs did, where style falls to substance everytime.

Don Rey... now I know you aren't getting no paul for carrying the ball when the NBA allows Manu to walk more then any NBA STAR I have ever seen and Parker gets the carry lee way too... and the no over top rule on Duncan... love that you should know this as well as anyone you are well known you get the calls especially at home. Officials know Paul and West now. Why they are getting more calls at NEW ORLEANS then say Manu and Parker (Duncan is one thing) but Oberto won't get those easy flops nor will Manu or Parker. And Paul can push off as he did Bowen the two times and Bowen can flop all he wants he won't get that call in New Orleans... just as manu has pushed off plenty of times but difference is the Hornets defenders try not to flop at San Antonio because they know they aren't getting the call!!!
