When Smith was first drafted I was excited. After he threw 1 TD to 11 INTs his rookie season I was worried yet still optimistic. But now, after three seasons in the NFL, with little improvement, I am completely off his bandwagon.
He may do well this year (to answer the poll, throw more TDs than INTs), but he will never lead this team to where we ultimately want to be...the Super Bowl. I just don't think this guy has it.
Well the more important question than will Alex Smith have more TD's or INT's is wheather or not he will even win the starting QB position. In following Martz' Offense through the years since the Rams are rivals to the 49ers I would guess that any quarterback under his system has a great chance to reach career highs of both, for Smith, he should have more TD's as long as the WR's stretch the field and he starts for them this year.
Last year was an interrupted year by injury. It's going to take a lot of maturity on his part this year to succeed and win the starting QB job and keep it. I believe he can do it, but I'm comforted with the fact that we now have Isaac Bruce on our team. For once in a really long time, we can realistically say that we have depth on offense.
Our O line may be the key factor in wins and losses, and if they prove to be gelled we may see Smith's best year yet. It all depends if he can stay off his back and keep the ball moving...
I'm thinking he'll have a break through season. Smith has the best arm on our team, just needs to learn how to control it a little better this year.
Every year since Alex Smith's arrival on the team, I have got excited and said, "this year is going to be his break-out year." Obviously, that has not happened...yet. I do believe he has had a rough start with injuries, 35 different Off Coord., but I think this may be a good year for him with Martz, B. Johnson, and Bruce.
So, until next year...This year is going to be his break-out year.

This is the year that the 49ers get consistant, and get on the winning track. Alex will be fine. If anyone thinks that is impossible well I would point out manning jr. jr. and Coughlin. took out the team of destiny. Alex is best suited to play the kind of ball that Martz will serve up. Remember that NOBODY has designed an offense that will help Alex ( or anybody ) succeed. Alex needs a crazy kind of run and shoot style of offense with alot of shotgun and alot of mobility in it. Oh yeah I almost forgot ......... he needs a front line that will block. I voted for TDs. Whats up twocent ? long time no talk. Its been so long that I am only an all-star again. Alex Smith will start early in the season,but the int,s will sit him down. Shaun Hill will play next ,but bad playing will sit him down. j.t. o, sullivan will get his chance but i hope he makes the best of it. GO NINNERS.
i wonder how Bryant Johnson justin smith will do considering how the niners seem to keep on bringing in free agents that dont produce and Justin Smith had what like two sacks last year is that the pash rush that we paid a ton of money for i hope not go niners
Justin Smith played with a bum knee last season, if I'm not mistaken, so I'm hoping we're paying the money for the years prior to last season. He's durable and a go-get 'em type of player. Bryant Johnson is a prospect who has deserved a crack at the starting job for a while, but he's been overshadowed by two of the best receivers in football.
So, yeah, hopefully we'll get our money's worth out of J Smith, even though that's ($ signs) has become the lamest thing to complain about professional athletes, no offense.
I know we picked up some really good names this year to make up for who we lost. It's been a damn good off season, even with a weak draft, as most considered it.
We seemed to have filled in a lot of cracks and then some.
I feel confident that Alex Smith will throw more td's and have a breakout year. however, his success will be based largely on the play of the offensive line. if they can play at or above the level that they did in 06 smith will get us somewhere. 2008 its goin down this tha year its goin down.
Alex Smith wil see a whole lot of Frank Gore cathing passes out of the backfield, now that we have a real offensive coordinator. martz likes to use his running backs coming out of the backfield and is very succesful at it. remember st. louis? he was succesful in my mind as head coach, and would be better as an offensive coordinator.
