FYI...

Just head that if the Stars/Wings game goes longer than 1 OT, they are going to switch the coverage over to VS so that NBC can show the horse race except in Dallas and Detroit.  We'll see how long that will last in those two cities if it goes longer...

Also, apparently they are still working out details in Baltimore (they have full race coverage) and Cleveland (they show the Indians games on NBC), but I wonder if anyone in those cities cares about either hockey team.

Don't believe that there's any issue with Sunday's game.

BTW, I heard that on NHL Live, so I highly doubt that its just a rumor.

Yeah I heard that yesterday too. NBC guaranteed 4 periods and thats it. At least they have a plan this year instead of last year when they said "We'll be right back to the NHL on NBC!" then the next thing you heard was the Kentucky Derby announer saying "NHL is on VS now".

With the exception of the Indians, NBC should be forced to show the hockey game nationally. The NHL signed a contract with you for NATIONAL TV rights and you should uphold that contract. I'm sure people in Baltimore can watch BS about the horse race on some other channel. NHL fans in Baltimore cannot watch the NHL game on any other channel.

bew, I heard the same thing on NHL Live. Hradek explained it away saying that NBC has a contractual obligation to show the Preakness. Do they not have a contractual obligation to show the NHL? Why do they need a Saturday afternoon game anyway? Since we all know the game is at 1:30 because of NBC, should they be allowed to dictate when the game is when they KNOW they have the Preakness. And if you don't think it's NBC, consider this; last Saturday, the Wings and Stars played at 7 pm. The game was on Versus.

I only watch the game on versus if it isn't on cbc but Saturdays game is for us fortunate to live near the border.

NBC has poor coverage.

CBC have good coverage , they do there home work  on a teams before they say anything about the teams.

NBC they don`t know crap about the players or the teams .

Go Wings

I'm with you C&W, seems like a night game on NBC would make more sense.  Not like Saturday night TV is that important.  I get why they would need to show the Preakness, but why set yourself up for the remote possibility that there could be a conflict.

Poor planning on NBC's part, but on the bright side, no glowing puck!

bew, here's an interesting article out of the Detroit Free Press. Apparently Versus is going to try an experiment with some sort of "puck-tracking" technology. I guess they never learned their lesson from Fox. I still remember that red vapor trail after a slap shot. Even if it was a dump-in.

I still remember that red vapor trail after a slap shot.

I still have nightmares watching that!

Here's my question, why not use this technology for the replay officials in Toronto?  If you could see the puck through the boards, you should be able to see it through the players, right?  Just a thought.

I read that everyone will have to watch the Mr. Ed race if they don't live in the Detroit or Dallas area when it's time for it to start. That's not a problem for me since I live in the Detroit area but for Wings fans abroad this is just another reason to hate Gary Bettman.

Versus wants puck tracking What's wrong with these suits that work for these TV channels? If you can't follow the puck then go watch grass grow or something or stare at a wall for kicks. Thank god I have other channels to watch the NHL on instead if Versus goes this route.

The Stanley Cup finals start Thursday at the earliest if both the Wings & Penguins can close it out in time.

HD was made for hockey! We don't need no stinking puck tracking!

I remember when the Sixers/Lakers played for the NBA championship in 1980, that their games during the week were tape-delayed everywhere except in LA-Philly. They came on at 11:30p Eastern! My point is that the NBA was an afterthought on TV before Magic-Bird, now they are everywhere. Hockey is a better sport than basketball, isn't it? I think it really comes down to clout, which has more, horse racing or the NHL. I guess we can tell who is winning at the moment.

Here we go again...just like last years Eastern Conference finals between Buffalo and Ottawa was preempted in OT, the possiblilty exists that if the game goes to OT we could see millions of fans get screwed....

I dont think that in Dallas or Detroit that if it goes multpile OT they will switch out of the NBC broadcast there either....

I wish VS would show games on the Saturday during the Preakness anyway and just leave the problem alone...NBC should not even be allowed to have rights for games they cant finish
