Actually, Howry's last 3 appearances were scoreless.

Actually,  I very pleased with Howry's performance today.  He put Kerry Wood in line for a save.  Only if he can Strike out the side.

Actually the last 4 were scoreless, but it's always tenuous.  He gives up 2 hits in an inning and gets out of it, or even 3 (like his last appearance vs. SD).  I just never feel good with him out there, certainly not the warm fuzzies of marmol-ade.

10 games over .500.   Let's see if we can be 20 over in another 6 or 7 weeks.

Cubs Win!

Wow, that felt easy. Not too bad for a rookie starting the game. Granted, it helped that the Cubs played a little home run derby.

What a home stand. The schedule looks a little light in the coming weeks. Let's hope there's not a letdown.

Happy Friday, boys. Later.

Wow.... finally something I can dispute with Jazz!

Thaey are 5 games over .500

It is a commonn mathematical error used in sports

I think the rest of this series should help the Cubs on their way to 20 over .500 in July...  The Cubs had a reasonably tough schedule to start the year, but have shown they can dominate the weaker teams by jumping all over them.

That's kind of funny.  I think Jazz had it right with 10 over .500, but a team that's .500 right now is only 5 games back.  Hurray for the small oddities of baseball!

If the Cubs lose and houston wins they gain a full game. If the cubs don't play and houston wins, or houston doesn't play and the cubs win, the difference changes by a half a game. If houston loses and the cubs win, houston loses a game. I am starting to get dizzy....

You are looking at "future" games. I terms of talking about games already played, if the Cubs had "not won" 5 of those games, they would have 5 less wins BUT also 5 more losses. Hence 21-21. So if the Cubs lose 5 in a row, they are 2.5 games over .500 from a historical perspective.

Essentially, you can look at it as if 5 games they have played are where the break even point is i.e. .500.

That's mathematics talking not baseball - they are 10 games over.

I don't know which was more fun today...giving the kids root beer floats at school class today, listening to the middle of the game on the radio when driving home, watching/listening to Lance Briggs finally find his key mid-way thru the 7th inning stretch, watching the pen (mostly) close it down as I got home, or reading this thread.

You guys were in true, rare form today. Thanks for the live entertainment!

GO Cubs GO!!!

I just want to say that it is NOT fair that the Cubs get to play the Pirates and the Reds have to play the Indians.

It's not fair, I tell you.
NOT NOT NOT.
