It's 9:00 a, Central time and still nothing on CBS about Darrell Aurthur and acusations about failing a class in high school that may have made him ineligible. I know the NCAA cleared him to play so the penalties shouldn't be severe, but I think it is a huge story and want more information on it. Way to stay on top of things CBS!!
From a KU perspective this is a non-issue. The NCAA certified him eligible and no wrong doing occurred while at the University.
The basketball coach at the high school is contending vehemently that the acusations about Arthur are false and the reuslt of a witch hunt by a certain sports writer named Shipp who seems to have it out for this particular high school porgram. Whether or not the accusations are true is of little importance in my opinion as all I care about is that Kansas is innocent of any and all wrong doing.
Yeah, this is definitely a none issue all the way around. I mean, seriously, if someone knew of something like this, why would they wait 2 years before coming forward. Some people will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame. The only thing is, if there was any chance of Darrell coming back, it is all but faded now with this story. I don't think there was much chance anyway.
I hate hearing stories like this. I don't see how Kansas could possibly be punished if this happened in high school and the NCAA cleared him. That high school has had problems anyway, one of their titles was stripped because of a similar incident.
Hopefully the Kansas is cleared of any wrong-doing.
Alot of Jayhawks down in Dallas, where the fox station that reported this is located, have said that the station has targeted the school and seeks to push through this kind of scandal stuff all the time. All the people at the school have said that this is rediculous. The Math teacher that was put on the air is no longer a teacher there for a reason, he was incompetent. He is now a drivers ed teacher.... seriously? wow. This is beyond a non issue because the Mayo scandal is ludicrously deep while this is, regardless of what happened there, not retroactively reviewable by the NCAA because they themselves investigated and cleared DA before he even reached the College level.
This is the reason why most Universities employ compliance nazis instead of just compliance officers. All the talk about KU having to forfeit the title is moot, and more than that, ridiculous. The only way this will involve KU is in all of the Mizzou fans and other Hawk haters having something to crow on us about.
I'm laughing my azz off at all KU fans comments thinking that the NCAA won't strip the title away. Darrell Arthur flunked math which makes him ineligible.... Each and every game that he suited up will be a LOSS for KU including the last game. There won't be any 2008 banners hung after the dust settles.... I, too, would be melting down if I was a KU fan... Thank goodness I'm not...
If the accusations are true, the NCAA has already stated that he'd be ineliglble if EITHER the University or Mr. Arthur were aware of the changing of the grades. Assuming that he was failing math and received a passing grade, it'd be hard to imagine a scenario where he wouldn't have known that something had been changed.
