Damn Kev and 82, ya'll wildin out on here. It aint that serious ya'll.
Before I say this I aint tryin to change nobody's opinion, but of corse give credit to where credit's due.
I want to divide this into What we wanted from Reggie, What we could have got from Reggie, and what we got from Reggie
We know what everybody wanted. 1100 yds rushing, 1000 yds recieving, big runs Gale Sayers type production. Some amazing stuff. We cant say that this isnt what we wanted because even the football analysts thought if Deuce wasnt in the picture he mighta set the rookie total yards from scrimmage record.
What we could have gotten from Reggie is at least respectable production. Year 1 could have been 600 yds, a 4.4 ypc avg and like 65rec for 700 yds. Also he could have been the primary kick and punt returner. Year 2 could have been the same really, but more on the way of showing that he can handle a rushing load because Deuce isnt getting younger.
What did we get?
We got an athlete who shows how dumb a lotta coaches are. Mind you if Devery Henderson, who burns everybody on the field, could catch the damn ball consistently, he'd be gameplanned against too, but thats the focus - Reggie Bush. Everybody is wondering what will Reggie do.
Reggie was drafted as a running back, where he actually does the worst. He does not know how to work in a limed amount of space like mostly all running backs do. He does not make good on the field decisions. He does not know how to anticipate holes, he does not know how to go in half gear when following blockers. He also dosent know how to keep his personal biz to himself, he also works at home instead team.
Granted, its a great gameplan - have a guy whos a great decoy, who pretty much dosent produce statistically. He's loved by the city and is looked at as the face of salvation for the Saints' woes. He helps the Saints by making opposing coaches think about doubling any player on the Saints' offense. And when Reggie's not in the game either Deuce, Aaron, or an undrafted 2007 free agent we know will come in and know how to follow blockers, anticipate holes, and has a chemistry with the team and offense. This is why we're ranked 1 and 4.
Last season showed that if teams play the Saints and not Reggie Bush, they get more success. Colston is good and getting better, though I wouldnt put him with Torry Holt's second season. I give a speed and conditioning edge to Torry. Brees is all that and more, except he looks like he has NO blindside instincts, which causes him to fumble as often as he gets sacked. We have no second string reciever because Patten's getting old. We hope Goodwin or Lehr can take over center effectively.
The future? It seems to me that a running back should know by his second season how to run a ball, break tackles or elude them without trying to use pop warner jukes or pure speed damn near every time they touch a ball still. If things continue the way they are, then yes Reggie will be labeled a bust. He can avoid this by becoming a faster more elusive version or Dave Meggett or Eric Metcalf or even Mewelde Moore. Lock down both KR jobs and come in as a slot reciever or third down running back. People, understand: Dude was a 2nd overall pick - he has to produce more results than be a decoy.
In the meantime, Deuce and Pierre Thomas should be a 1-2 punch at running back.

For christ sake give Reggie Bush a break. Without him in 2006 we would have been just another 8-8 team with absolutely no reason to be here talking about the playoff games we should win this year. It would have just been another 2 years of mediocrity had we not taken him. F-that. You guys suck if you want to cast off Reggie for Pierre Thomas who has only played one good game his entire career. The locker room of our favorite team is full of humble, class guys and I would like think that we had fans of similar character.
Recognize the fact that the league is evolving into a 2-back system. Aaron Stecker clearly isn't a number 1 back nor is he fit to start on any team in the NFL for that matter. So essentially our system was busted last year. No defense would spy Stecker as he was no threat compared to Duece thus putting all the pressure on Bush. There are primary and compliment backs in our system and without the primary it clearly failed. System Error.
Give the kid a break. Don't give up on what is only going to be a great thing for us.

The jury is out on if he'll be a great player. Right now he simply isnt fit to be a feature back with Deuce there or not.
Tell me this, what second overall pick - F-- dat, top 5 pick that wasnt a bust, has not shown that he's capable of playing the position he's drafted for? The only thing Reggie has shown is speed and flash. He has not shown vision, power, or work ethic.
Reggie Bush has tried to walk to the locker room during a game when its out of reach, he's devoting a whole lotta time to Kim's fine azz instead of football. Matter of fact, so far he's shown glitz and glamour instead of on field production. Ya know most rookies and first year players stay out of the limelight if they arent handling their buisiness on the field.
8-8? I tell you what. Had we traded with the Jets grab a 2nd that year and a 2nd in 2007 and let them pick Reggie and we got A.J. Hawk, we could have still gotten a compliment to Deuce. Hmmm Maurice Jones Drew? Jerious Norwood?
I think the NFL is spooked that if a light came on in Reggie's head, he'd become a beast, but right now he's not.

Well its funny you ask. Oh before I get into that. Go and read the post I dropped from what people were saying about Bush before he got drafted. He was not drafted to be a feature back, so to continue to try to label him as such is pointless. As for the draft picks there are quite a few
Alex Smith, Robert Gallery, Dewayne Robertson, D'Brickshaw Ferguson, Mike Huff, Vernon Davis, Antrelle Rolle. There are guys who didn't live up to the expections of their positions in relation to where they were picked in the draft. Why don't they get scrutinized as much?

It's not that simple to just trade down. We make that deal and we look like fools for not getting equal value. Hell, look at what Carolina gave up just to pick in at 19, and what you think a couple of 2nds would have sufficed to give up the #2 slot. I don't think so.
Ya know most rookies and first year players stay out of the limelight if they arent handling their buisiness on the field.
Most rookies don't get the media attention and endorsments that a Reggie Bush has either.

Matter of fact, so far he's shown glitz and glamour instead of on field productionAnd you mean to tell me that this has an an adverse effect to his production on the field. Maybe that bum knee he had contributed to it a little bit too.
He has not shown vision, power, or work ethic.
I agree, he has not shown vision, but more so he has not shown patience, but that is to be expected for a guy who's that fast. Power, well this is funny, he was never considered to be a power guy, so how can you get a knock for that, when it's not your forte to begin with. I would care to wager that I bet the Atlanta Falcons would differ on your opinion of his power since he overpowered a couple of their guys enroute to the endzone.
I truly do get a sense of what your trying to get at, and like I mentioned before. Reggie has not lived up to the hype. Be it the media hype, fan hype or his own. However, if you think he's a feature back type, then that's your fault, if you paid enough attention to his career, and all the pre and post draft analysis, you would have clearly read, seen or heard, is best attributes are when he's used as a complment, ( pretty much like his 2006 season), and when he's allowed to use is versitlity and skills out in open space. ( I.E. the, Steelers game, 49'ers, Giants, Falcons, Jags, Seahawks. So he must have some talent
Bottom line is if he's not living up to what you think he should be, then fine say that. My problem starts when you start trying to create things about a player that have no merit. What matters most, what you or I think of his playing and production, or what the coaches think of it. Apparently the coaching staff must think highly of his talents. I see all these comparisons made with Reggie from MJD, and Addai, to M. Westbrook. Here's one for you. Tiki Barber. Smallis rb, had a fumbling issue earlier in his career. Was a tandem back with Ron Dayne, projected as a 3rd down back. Eventually went on to become the primary running back. And who was one of the guys that Coached him????????? Sean Payton.
SO WHY DON'T SOME OF US DO WHAT Reggie hasn't been quite able to do when rushing the football. Lets have a little patience and see if things don't open up!!!!!
