...NOT the quarterbacks.  I know Im probably the only Jets fan to feel this way but its true.  I understand that Kellen threw 10 picks and only 5 tds, but he also had 2 touchdowns dropped last year and 5 of those interceptions were due to McCareins, Brad Smith and our "stud" receiving core tipping passes right into the hands of defenders.  Chad has brains but no arm, which is enough with this team to win you 8 games with their schedule next year, but thats not enough to save Mangini's job.

The problem is the boring/lame offense we ran last year.  The year we went 10-6 and made the playoffs there was all sorts of creative ways to utilize multi-talented players like smith and leon.  Last year it was there, but not as much.  We have dynamic players, and QBs who can get them the ball 90% of the time, we just need to find ways to use them.

D'brick you're 100% right not all Clements fault.   Give Kellen a real shot with the bolster'd O line and some new downfield threats (Keller) he has just as much arm as Cutler and is smarter.  Pennington's arm is dead he can't make the outside pass anymore (with zip) and has no sense of a blind side guy ready to smack him...holds the ball way to long...I look for the O line to be vastly improved to give Kellen a minute to see hisoptions and no more Justin to drop balls, stand there while the short pass is intercepted.  I think we need 1 more downfield threat but still the ground game should open up more for Jones to get into the secondary and Leon to the outside.  If that happens we can compete against any nfl teaam every Sunday.  Hope is High from this Namath era fan.

can we get a third wr too step up?

we had so many more problems then our qb... but hey thats life 1st too blame is the qb...

i just want the guy who is going too get the ball to the guys in green and white whatever its chad or kellen... i think kellen will have all the shot too be qb,,, but i doubt chad falls on is face so anythign is possible...

DBrick...you're not alone.  any Jets fan that actually watched the games understand that it wasn't a QB problem.  the line was terrible and when it comes right down to it, if you have no o-line, you just can't win.  our season was over last year when we let Pete Kendall go over a few bucks.  faneca will help a ton and d'brick and mangold are a year older and more experienced.  we finally have people who can play in the 3-4 too.  to echo the feelings on the board already, when it comes right down to it, I feel like QB play was wayyyy down on the list of what went wrong for us last year.

play calling also burned us.  i go through the same crap rooting for penn state.  we have offensive weapons here that we never use (or use effectively).  frankly, I don't understand how half these people have jobs...people that play madden/ncaa football routinely could probably cook up better offensive game plans than a lot of coaches...

I agree DBrick, it was as much to do with lil Shottys play calling as it was the QBs last year. There were some bonehead plays from both Clemens and Pennington, but if the offense had any teeth at all some of those those bonehead plays couldve been equalized. My guess is that Shotty kept it vanilla due to our O-line being horrible and Coles and Cotch being banged up for Kellen to be able to use them effectively, I cant imagine that offensive scheme was by design. LOL

I think the hiring of Callahan was to give Shotty a sounding board to bounce ideas off of, and another set of eyes to find a formula that will be consistant. Callahan should also help this O-line get on the same page quicker, and bring the depth guys along so that they could be plugged in easier if need be. Cant wait to see how we look on the field.

DBrick, you were 50% right in your post.  Like others have said, right on with the QB thing.  McCareins was repsonsible for at least two any maybe three of Clemns' picks.

However, you and josher771 talk about the play calling.  Guys, truth is, with a siv for an offensive line, it didn't mattrer most of the time what plays we called.  The Jets couldn't open any holes on the O-line for the run nor protect either QB long enough to run anything sophisticated.

Got a feeling this year we will see the 'creative' genious of Brian Schottenheimer once more now that a QB will have a little more time to throw.

I wanna hear from all you Jet fans out there, what do we still need / lack?  My .02 is we still need a burner slot receiver who can get separation in the secondary.  And maybe another corner.  I really like Reavis and he'll be a playmaker but not sold on the combo of Barrett, Wolfolk and any of their picks.

I agree with D'Brick.  The O-line was putrid and Pennington isn't Carl Lewis and Clemens was basically a rook back there.  If Faneca and Woody are worth the 60 mil or so and perform we should be alright with either QB.  I do hope we use this Keller guy as a slot receiver with Baker still the TE.  This will give CP or KC some very dependable and fairly explosive weapons.  Now combine Coles Cotchery, Keller, Baker and add great pass catching backs with Washington and Jones, you tell me outside of NE that has these weapons. Indy don't anymore, PIT maybe but that's about it. IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE O-LINE

The scary part about this team is they were 2-12 against teams not named the Miami Dolphins.  That's just really bad.  Luckily the Dolphins will probably spot them 2 more this year.

Mangini has to just make Clemens the guy and take the lumps.  Rookie QBs are not going to be good and very few second year guys are.  Give him a shot this year, then see

but see if its not clemens fault that we lost, than its not chads fault either right? exactly, pennington has proven he can win with a good supporting cast, well this year we have a better supporting cast then weve ever had with Chad Pennington here, this is penningtons last shot and he has to make it happen, or hes not a jet anymore, and he knows that and hes confident, and i think he wins the job and i think he is a better qb than clemens, and i cant wait for pennington to have a great year and for everyone to be suprised and shocked but im telling you im expecting it, so might as well jump on now because pennington is going to win the job, lead us to the playoffs and have a great year.

I agree with u, this season i think we will be in the hunt for a playoff birth regardless of who the QB is, i think that the boaring offense from last season that your talking about happened because the coaches just decided that we didn't have the talant to open things up, it was a waisted season to lets save our bag of tricks for next year. I think were going to open things up again this season like in 06

Kellen will be starting next year over Penny there is no doubt in my mind. I know a lot of Jets fans are pulling for Pennington (and part of me still does). The only problem I have is with his arm strength. I saw corners jumping his routes with no worries about the deep ball. Nobody was affraid of getting beat deep, and you just can't have that. I could see Penny playing in a dome for the Vikings, but his passes can't cut through the wind of the meadowlands anymore.

As for Clemens (I've been saying this since day one) he is the future of the Jets. Penny will be our back-up (a damn good one at that) but this is Kellens team now. I just hope they don't wait so long like last year to name a starter.

i understand that the wide outs dropped a lot of ball but kellen just didn't show me enough.  chad has proved that he can win even tho he doesn't have a strong arm.  he will have a good line to protect him and with that good line they will be able to run the ball better as well.  i would go with Chad Pennington for maybe 3 games then the Jets should make there decision with the qb.
