I have been at the games in Anaheim and have gotten my first true look at Swisher and I tell ya he has a very weak arm for CF. This guy needs to step it up in a big way. It was nice to see him hit the HR the other night, but outside of that he and Thome are automatic outs. I love my Sox, and have faith in the guy, but right now am pretty disapointed now to have been to a game and watched him. I really believe we should send down Wassermann and call-up Owens. Sure he is not hitting great, but it would be nice to have him on the basepaths in the late innings.

I thought coming into this year he had an average arm at best but after watching him the only average he can compare to is Juan Pierre, Kenny Lofton, Scott Podsednik, and Jerry Owens. His arm is horrible, its one thing to have a weak arm but he never throws it near where he is intending to. Double whammy. I dont think he should ever be playing centerfield. He has decent range but the rest of the outfield doesnt have great range so you really need a centerfielder that can cover some ground.

Swishers arm was considered average for a 1st baseman, well below average for a outfielder.

He may be a nice guy ,but he's cheap long term for a reason.

I think the sox will regret this trade for many years.

I wrote this on March 3rd. There is no reson to think this guy will ever be anything more than a below average player who grates on his teammates nerves.

Another brilliant Kenny pickup.

Wasserman is on the Sox with an ERA in the 20s because Kenny gutted an entire farm system and this is the best they have.

Or maybe it's because he had an ERA in the 2's last season?

His career .359 OBP and proven power #'s, along with his young age are..

Again Sea Fan, quit clinging to the OBP because in reality, it is taking a dive this season.  And also, quit acting like Swisher is a 22 year old rookie.  He is going to be 28 this season.  It's not like he is all of a sudden going to morph into a 5 tool perennial all star.  He could serve as a utility role at best.  Anderson this season has proven to be the better center fielder both offensively and defensively.

It's a tough situtaion, because they took a power hitting corner outfielder/slash 1B, and tried to make him into a leadoff hitting CF.  This move was an overreaction for losing out on Hunter and Rowand.  I am not bashing Kenny; Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Linebrink all look like good moves.

I would like to see BA get more playing time in center, but in national league parks, where we have to give up a hitter as it is, I don't see it coming.  I think you can rotate Swish and move people in RF, IB, DH etc and get Anderson some more PT.  Swish does not have to lay every day.  Also, he needs to be removed out of CF late in games when we have the lead.

We're 40 games into the season, and he's started out slowly, that doesn't mean he won't do what he did in an Athletics uniform, which was usually .250-25-80 w/ a huge OBP.

Also, 28 is the age where players break out.

Yes, 40 games and he is still unable to produce.  As it has been stated before, this is not just some one week or even a 2 week slump.  This has gone on for a month and half.  I'm not saying that he is the only one not hitting but come on.  When you have Anderson who is in another league in regards to defense alone, there is no need to cling to Swisher and dream big, unless you're Kenny Williams.

I am not as concerned about his arm as I am his range. He does not have the range of a CF and should be [playing LF or Rf. Of course, he is not going to replace Quentin or Dye at thos postions.

In terms of fielding, Brian Anderson is our best defensive OF and should be playing more at CF than we have seen him so far. Is it really that bad to sit Swisher or have him serve as a reserve OF and reserve 1B. It seems like the Sox could still get him some ABs in this type of role.
