2 conferences that keep their bowl to themselves?

I'd say the Rose Bowl has lost its flare.

Why is Tim Teabow a public enemy?  Hes a great kid.  Now does he have a target on his back because of being the Heisman award winner deffinatly, but does anyone really hate this kid?  I'm an Ohio State fan and I dont diss like the kid the team sure I don't like the Gators.  Sorry all of that was really just a question of why you put him on the list.

I'd say the Rose Bowl has lost its flare.

I think all the bowls are losing flare.  The Rose's ratings are down, but less so than the Sugar, Fiesta and Orange.

As for who's CFB's public enemy #1? - I say it's the almighty dollar...

If you look at the Rose Bowl over the past few years, you will find that the Pac 10 and the Big Ten have not played the majority of games together.

2002  Miami vs Nebraska

2003 Oklahoma vs Washington State

2004 Usc vs Michigan

2005 Texas vs Michigan

2006 Texas vs Usc

2007 Usc Vs Michigan

2008 Usc vs Illinois

Georgia could have played Usc but the SEC tied them up, by mutual agreement,  to another bowl game. Let's get off the Rose Bowl hatred mentality. Conferences are tied to many bowls and we all know that.

The BCS is the problem with CFB.

I think I know what you're getting at, but I don't necessarily agree that it's an enemy. Even with the problems it has caused, without CFB being such a revenue source we wouldn't be able to see nearly the number of games we do and be forced to watch Notre Dame or State U every week.

Plus I think it has been a great equalizer. CFB was dominated by very few programs long ago and it was mainly tradition based. Since CFB has become so profitable more colleges have taken it seriously and increased the number of relevant teams which is great for the sport. Also, people might complain about little programs not being able to compete with big-time schools monetarily, but this era is so much better to be a small-time school than years ago as they'd never get the exposure and money that they do now.

I mean even 20 years ago was it ever possible for a team like App. St. to go into Ann Arbour or win? Or could teams like BSU or Hawaii stay competitive for years at a time?

And lastly, I don't know the numbers, but high football revenues trickle back down into scholarships for non-athletes and keep tuition rates less ridiculous than they are already which is the best reason that money has been a good thing for CFB.

So overall I think money has a more positive effect on CFB than negative.

uscfancj,

The Rose had no options in any of these.  Two of them were National Championship games 01(02) Miami-Nebraska; 05 (06) USC-Texas.  In 02(03) the Orange Bowl used a little know rule to essentially steal USC and Iowa.  Since OSU was in the BCS title game, no other Big Ten could go based on the two per conference rule.  The Rose had to take Washington State and Oklahoma.

In 2004 (05) Texas jumped Cal in the last BCS poll and by rule had to get a BCS bowl.  Because of the selection sequence, the Rose wound up HAVING to take Texas.  Mack Brown spent a lot of time in November 04 lobbying hard to get Texas ahead of Cal in the polls.  Cal got left out.

Last year, you are correct.  The Sugar would have protected UGA.  But Mizzou was there for the taking.  They had a better record, were ranked higher and most importantly they beat Illinois head to head.  The Rose opted for tradition.  When the Orange later selected Kansas over Mizzou, the Tigers were no longer available for a BCS game.

The Rose has made it perfectly clear that they will take their opponents from the PAC 10 and Big Ten unless those teams don't meet minimum qualifications.

Collage football is Collage football's worst enemy...or any other sport for that matter. Athletics should be club teams not affiliated with the NCAA. Let the boosters filter money back to the schools if they want to and pay the kids something...this will also keep alot in school longer. There are many club teams in alot of sports because of another stupid rule Title 9. That being said I love collage sports and don't want to see them go the way of minor league sports....they need to stay somehow connected to the students, just not the ncaa.
