I have to disagree with the Miami QB analysis.  The Dolphins did what was in the best overall interest of the team.

First, so far all reports on John Beck and the new staff seem to be positive.  As for last season, he was mishandled, and thrown in a horrible situation with half of the starters injured.

Second, the drafting of Chad Henne was a necessary move.  It is an insurance policy if Beck doesn't pan out, or he can be trade material if Beck does become a star.  Also consider that the Dolphins chose not to draft a QB with their first 2nd round pick.  That shows that they were willing to take their chances.  Plus, if the Dolphins chose to pass on a quarterback, there would be articles by the esteemed sport writers exclaiming Miami's stupidity on not drafting a QB when there is an unproven John Beck.

Third the signing of Josh McCown was a smart move.  The guy is still fairly young, and has not been given a decent shot at being a starter.  He may end up winning out the QB competition, because of his experience- the same thing that happened to him in Arizona and Detroit.  Or he may be forced out because of the younger guys on roster like last year with the Raiders.

To say John Beck is no longer the team's QB of the future, however, is not a right call as of now.  Camp is going to be a full on battle, and the winner will start.  Will Henne prove a thorn in Beck or McCown's side, maybe.  Who knows, Beck may prevail and stay with the team, Henne might win out, or even McCown may shine.

Slkbassist, I have to disagree with you on this analysis.

Your first point--------Reports are that Beck is hitting it off well with the new staff. I wont argue that one bit. I like Beck's talants. He could be successful.

Your Second point-- "Drafting Chad Henne was a necessary move" (I disagree). "Also consider that the Dolphins chose not to draft a QB with their first 2nd round pick.  That shows that they were willing to take their chances." Bill Parcells knows the draft. He knew what would have been a reach for the guy at the first pick of 2nd round. He knew if he didnt take him where Henne ended up drafted, then someone else would. Plus, if the Dolphins chose to pass on a quarterback, there would be articles by the esteemed sport writers exclaiming Miami's stupidity on not drafting a QB when there is an unproven John Beck.

WHO CARES what the media writes about a team. I highly doubt that the NFL teams consider the media's opinion.

Your 3rd point--- McClown was a good pick up. Yes he was. I agree with you there only for one reason. EXPERIENCE. He wasnt  my favorite free agent QB but he will be a nice leader from where ever he is at (BENCH hopefully).

Why would you not say that Chad Henne isnt the teams future QB. John Beck and Josh McCown will get a shot as you say, but Parcells wont let one of HIS picks go to waste. I think Henne will get first dibs on the JOB

I think that McCown was brought in to be the veteran presence. It is not impossible for him to really come around and be impressive. In fact, while I am not thinking it will be with Miami necessarily, I think he may be a Rich Gannon kind of story where he has 3-4 years of being decent with a team a little later in his career.

I think Henne is more of the tough minded talented QB that Parcells likes. However, I agree, Beck should come in and compete and demonstrate why he was brought in before the coaching change. I tend to believe that Henne is over-all better and more suited for the new staff, but the competition at the position and the opportunity that Beck has should not leave him out of the mix.

slkbassist, I agree with most of your points. Last year, everyone was talking up Beck like they're talking up Henne right now. And he definitely wasn't in any kind of position to prove himself with that disaster of a team. I think McCown is an athletic veteran who may surprise, and Henne is there because he was a good value and Beck still is an unknown quantity. But Henne is just as unknown - and anyone who's followed Parcells knows that once the players get into camp, he cares far more about winning than about where they were drafted.

I agree .......Beck will have a o line to prove what he has. I liked Beck over Quinn "overhyped" anyday. Henne was a good pick up because we need a good franchise quarterback could be Beck could be Henne. At least we have a choice.

Competition is a good thing.

McCown what can i say i love it. This team will be better at the QB position period.

It's good to be able to talk about the prospect of positive year.  It's also good to talk about have QB's that can make a positive impact on our team.  Competition is a good thing and Tuna will go with the man who can impact the team the most.  We have two QB's who could have a very bright future.  That can only be a good thing.

Last year you could have had anyone at the quarterback position and they would have been very difficult for them to succeed.  Our Phins were just that bad.   Those days are gone.  Let the comopetition begin.  Hell let the season begin.  I don't know about you guys but I am ready for a little payback.  We got our buts kicked last year and there were a few teams who really embarrassed us.  I think it's time to put the shoe on the other foot.

John Beck is going to have every chance that he needs to get the starting spot. I think the Big Tuna made the right decision in drafting Henne and get free agent McCown. They are with all do respect to them they are going to be back-ups till Beck with a new and I believe better line is around for him to be protected and develop as a pocket passer. Beck is quick and smart, McCown is a Vet but still not a great addition he just a guy there to help the two young guys learn what its like to be in the NFL. If Beck fails to do anything and what I mean is a win by week 6 you can bet that McCown will get his chance. Sparano is not going to feed Henne to the Lions unless week 12 comes around and they only have one win again. Henne is the Backup QB of the future assuming Beck doesnt work out. He is an insurance policy because everyone doesnt want a repeat of last years performance and we really havent found our guy yet. Give Beck his chance and a little more respect, he did have an awful offence that he was thrown in the middle of last year.

I hear you there ,jimwood. This good canadian boy was down there for the Raiders game, and even though I was drunk, and enjoying my first trip to South florida, it was still painful to watch !!
