I think this was a great article by freeman.
on the message boards Celtics fans are ranting about Lebron instead of giving the celtics the credit he deserves for stepping up in a big game. At least freeman realized the great game played by pierce and gave him some credit instead of constantly talking about lebron.
Its nice to see pierce get his chance to shine in the sportlight, hopefully his success will continue.
CO CELTICS!

I agree, sometimes the staff writers on this site can get long winded, or lose their point setting themselves up for a joke. And all though Freeman wrote jokingly often like most CBS writers, this article covered a lot of great points...and was a nice read for someone like me who missed the game!
This Boston-Detroit series could be classic. The Big Three vs. The MoTeam.
Given that Boston has home court versus the Pistons, I'm sensing a big BoTown-Showtime matchup...possibly reminiscent (in terms of emotion) along the lines of the classic 80s matchups.
Yummy, that would be nice.

It's kind of ironic that Paul Pierce was considered by many to be the #3 guy in "The Big Three" coming into the season. As this well written article pointed out, KG has been solid (although, as is typical, never took a game over and put the team on his back... but how could he when he spent most of his time shooting mid-range jumpers rather than posting up?), and Ray has looked lost mainly because he's a "shooter" rather than a "scorer" (like Pierce), and wasn't able to create his benefit from play calls designed for him, nor was he able to create his own shots (unfortunately, I suspect this will be the case against the Pistons and Richard Hamilton).
As a Celtics fan, I'm happy for Pierce. He's never been the screaming chest-pounding lunatic (I mean that in a good way) that Kevin Garnett has been, but he's every bit the leader and every bit as unselfish, and proved it once again today by leaving it all out there on the court. That final play where he out-hustled LeBron to the tip ball, dove for it, and called a time-out pretty much sums it up. Pierce is an elite level talent, and has been for nearly a decade now, but in conversations about the top players int he league, he always seems to get lumped in with guys like Jason Richardson, Richard Hamilton, or Tracy McGrady. The bottom line is that I think Pierce posesses the sort of intangibles that those guys do not. He showed it today. He deserves and and all praise he gets from it, because he's been doing it for an awfully long time on a lot of awful teams.

i think this was thought by people who didnt really know how good pierce is...he always flew under the radar... i have always thought he was 2nd best on the team to KG... offensively, hes better all around than allen ever was, but allen was the better shooter... pierce is also better in other aspects of the game, allen is more one dimensional than pierce.

first off -Please no more "The Big Three " references. It's beyond trite.
I agree the article was decent and did justice to a stellar game 7. I think what angers fans about James performance was his costly non-box out during the key jump ball situation. Zydrunas does exactly what he's supposed to do.. and Pierce simply outhustles James for possession.

I've been following Pierce since his days at KU. This guy has it all. He is unselfish, plays D, can shoot, can score on his own and hustles his ass off. I think he is a great teammate. Ray Allen can shoot the J but what else does he have? I love KG and his all out effort, not to mention his excellent D but in my opinion, the Celts go as far as Pierce can take them. If Allen can actually find the net and KG keeps doin what he does I can certainly see the Celts takin it all. Now if they can just figure out how to play on the road......

thats right.....i expected the Celtics to win, but lebron has impressed me even more!
Boston was expected to win, but not in a 7th game....Lebron got the trade, but not the trade he was looking for....SO NOTHING IS RIGHT!!!!
I hope the celtics do win the championship, cuz i picked em and they should......BEST TEAM IN THE REGULAR SEASON, BUT BARELY HANGING ON IN THE PLAYOFFS....
RUN THE OFFENSE THROUGH PIERCE AND LET THE OTHER TWO BE AS ROLE PLAYERS!!!

I don't think anyone ever thought of Pierce as #3. Anyone who knows basketball would put garnett and pierce 1a and 1b. I think Garnett is the vocal leader and heart of the team and inspires Pierce. Pierce leads by example and not necessarily a vocal leader. Pierce is one of the most underrated super stars in the league. The post game on media session was classic...Garnett constantly stating...we gave the ball to pierce and got the hell out of the way...congrats Celtics, Congrats Pierce and great season Cavs...Delonte looks to be for real but you got some yard work with the rest of team as Wallace looks to be getting old very fast, ditto for Ilgauskis

Pierce was great - but the big 3 still is the key. Although Ray Allen did not play well in the whole series he still had a defender all over him because of the threat that he still can go off. Also, the Celtics could allow Wallace, Varajo and crew to be wide open but Cleveland had to stay close to Garnett and Posey because they can shoot.
It shoul be a great Celtics/Pistons series.....
