Pats Cheat......that is just absolutely and totally horrible that they wrote that in blood "America is not at war, the Marines are at war, America is at the mall".....but of course there again is that which I had mentioned before re all is fair in love and war - and it stinks!, ie war is hell. We have so many who cannot relate to war (of course that is good as it means they never had to experience it - but on the other hand it tends to make people less understanding of sacrifice.
And what better way to insult and undermine than by picking on our way of life and level of quality of life as that bloody message......I read about a woman named Tokeyo (spelling?) Rose who during WWII spewed forth messages thru the radio in attempts to undermine the morale of our military....reminding them that their wifes/girlfriends were back home probably keeping company with those men who were not serving in the military.....and that the enemies were stronger than "the Yanks", etc.
She was an attractive female so her photo was also dropped in leaflets proclaiming the same propaganda.....I believe she was tried for war crimes and served prison time but not positive about the prison time. Re your question "do you think this society is willing to sacrifice? - I think it will definitely impact the illegal alien problem as they will scatter back across the border......and if we do not have any choice but to sacrifice then that will be the fate we have to face......or be brutalized - or perish.
Yep, war is not everything that you see in the movies with clearly defined sides, tactics or emotions, more of a repeated beating, or at least that is what it felt like to me.
I have heard stories of Tokyo Rose (SP?) but never bothered to find out if they were true.
My point on sacrafice is what if we made war profiteering illegal (I recently heard a democrat went independent to split from the party over this issue), and made the contractors in Iraq post their jobs status and expendatures online (you figure we are paying for it might as well). It wouldnt take that much seeing how most of them have to do this anyways when they land a large project, its part of the final audit process. But what if Americans really saw what some companies were making (outside of the obvious oil companies), would we support the war to continue along the same path or would we take a step back and realize the soldiers should earn more?
Ok, my day is over.
NS - hope you stop by again you ask questions that are difficult yet easy to answer.
