Sorry Tiger has been AWOL in New Orleans .... I know it's a big disappointment to his fans in the south. Throughout his career he has been pretty selective about the tournaments he participates in. There are a few others that he never plays, for example the Wyndham Championship (formerly the Greater Greensboro Open/Chrysler Classic) in North Carolina. Still, you can't argue with the success he's had, so I guess he's reluctant to change what's been working. One of the TV golf commentators had an excellent idea: Each time the PGA signs a contract with one of the major TV networks for golf coverage, it is for a specific period of time, for example 5 or 6 years. His proposal was that the PGA require that each golfer participate in every event on the tour at least once over the period of the current TV contract. That would give the golfers plenty of time to plan their schedule for each of the 6 years, and would give the fans in every city that hosts a golf tournament a chance to see all of the top players. I would really like to see the PGA grab this idea and run with it. Unfortunately, because of players' unions, etc, I doubt seriously it will ever happen. They seem reluctant to force the players to do anything.
