Would you draft Manning or Brady in in the 1st round over LJ, Portis, and Gore?

While I picked no, it would really all have to do with the starting lineup requirements and how the scoring is set up.
If I had to start 2 QB's, then I would take a QB in the first. If I only had to start 1 QB, then I would take a RB first .
Normally, I never take a QB in the first round. Taking them because they have less risk will only burn you in the end. Sometimes people forget that the draft is all about building the team you want to have for the season.
If you draft a QB first, then you're already behind the 8 ball on getting a top RB. Even in a league where you only have to start 1-2 RB's, you really need at least 1 top RB to succeed.
Personally, every single time I've drafted a QB in the first, I haven't liked my roster and my team never seems to do as well. Even when I draft a QB in the 2nd, my teams just don't seem to have what it takes to win. BUT when I wait and draft a QB in the 6th or 7th round, my teams almost always make the playoffs. Hell, most of my championship teams came from teams where I waited for a QB.
But hey, to each is own. It's why we play FF. So we can do our own thing. ;)

Hey All....
The biggest thing abot drafting a QB is your scoring system. In my league Manning and Brady always outscore te best RBs. It is only these 2 qb's but I would still take one if given the choice. It will also depend on the depth of your league. If you only have 8 teams then go for it, there will plenty of backs left. I guess it depends on how many teams and the availability of quaity RB's.
Best of luck...Hoserman

I have taken a QB in the 1st round the last several years and I make the playoffs and get knocked out in the 1st round everytime. I think it is due to my not using the strength of schedule method. My league starts 2 RB's and it is a PPR league. QB's get 1 pt for every 25 yds passing and 1 pt for every 10 yds rushing, 6 for TDs and -2 for interceptions. I had P. Manning last year and made the playoffs but my RBs were L Maroney, Jamal Lewis and DeAngelo Williams...I went out in the 1st round. This year, I have the 1st pick in our draft...I am going running back.

I said yes because all of those players will be on teams that aren't great so they'll be prone to being a bust, while Manning and Brady play on great teams with great receivers. Also the league is becoming pass heavy. Though it depends on scoring system and positions that start I still think that Bardy or Manning will be better this year.

Yes draft a QB first always. Unless you are facing a late pick and a batch of incredible RB's, take a QB. If you have the choice to pick up Tom Brady, do it! Take a look at the fantasy football overall standings from last year. Almost every team on the top lists had Brady in as QB, I had Brady and Hassellbeck but somehow ended up in 2nd. As long as you have a strong QB you will have consistent high scoring. A great RB duo is always nice, but my opinion, go for the QB

Yes, it is true that most teams LAST YEAR that had Brady ended up #1. That's mainly to do with the fact he went in the 3rd to 4th round in most drafts last year, so teams grabbed a couple RB's before selecting their QB.
That being said, I have never drafted a QB in round 1 and usually make the playoffs. However, this year I would definately consider going QB around pick 7. I feel that a lot of good sleepers are out there this year. I could grab Edge in the third or I'm really high on Thomas Jones this year, I love what they did to improve the line. Also the rookie rb's for Detroit and Carolina have a lot of potential. And don't forget about Mendenhall, if Parker goes down he will be huge.
I have another question: When you go into a draft you usually have a plan, ex. I want to go RB, RB, WR, RB, WR, QB ect ect. How often do you stick to your plan? I usually end up abandoning it around rd 3 or 4 and go best available. If you stick to it no matter what, how does your team usually turn out?

In a league where QB TD's count the same as rushing or receiving TD's the answer is yes, I would draft Manning or Brady in round 1 over the three RBs listed. However, I would definately try to make sure I had a decent 'dome' QB to backup Brady late in the season (for weather reasons). I know a numbers of guys who got shut out in the playoffs for just that reason.
However, I would not pick either of them over LT, Adrian Peterson, Steven Jackson, Joseph Addai or Brian Westbrook regardless.
