So true Demon.  Sadly, people who have daddy fill out their taxes or just take them to H & R Block, just let them tell them how much they get back, or how much they owe, and sign where they tell them to, seldom actually looking at the paperwork itself.

I suppose adding more ethanol can change things a bit, but I really don't want to get into that whole mess.
oh no you di'int!

ethanol is a scourge, and it needs to go away.

That's exactly why I said I didn't want to get into that mess. . .

Where the hell did this come from do-nation?? he's been brewin' about a week or so.  sort of like the kid that sits in the back of the class and doesn't participate in the planner cuz he's bored.  but once you get on a subject of his interest, he wants to throw in 4 cents.  sort of like the dude in lions from lambs, or whatever that movie was called

Didnt the Saudi's say ther would not pump more oil last week? My opinion is, eff the polar bears and start drilling in the wildlife reserves in Alaska.

I also think it is a travesty that China is able to drill closer to OUR Gulf Coast than we are.  But that's just me apparently.

Prices would also come down if the supply was increased, like if we decide to drill in ANWR (there's somewhere between 5 and 15 billion barrels up there) But that is not likely to happen soon either, even if McCain gets elected.

I disagree.  I don't see the increase in fuel prices being the result of lack of supply, but rather the very high demand.

In reality, the public is being played by the oil companies.  I'm not saying that they're doing anything wrong; they are in the business of making money and that is what they are doing.  But you need to take a good hard look at what is going on.  The price of crude is rising, no doubt.  The oil companies, however, are using that as an excuse to raise the prices at the pump without pi$$ing off the public.  They're saying, "hey, our cost rose 20%, so your cost will rise 20%; there's nothing we can do about it".  In reality, the cost of crude is but one of many costs that the oil company incurs in business.  The cost of refining didn't go up, the cost of labor didn't go up.  So, if the cost to the oil company to buy crude went up 20%, but the cost of crude is only 30% of their total cost, they didn't have a 20% increase in costs, they had a 6% increase.  Why do you think the oil companies topped the list of Forbes most profitable companies in the world?

Again, I'm not vilianizing the oil companies.  If I could get someone to pay more for my product/services, I would charge more too.  But don't believe that the cost of crude is the reason prices at the pump are increasing at such a fast pace.  They're increasing the prices for one reason - because they can.

Its this simple for me:

I was a right wing conservative during most of college...Why?  Moral issues...I couldn't see past them.

Then...I grew up...I climbed down off that high horse...I learned that Republicans are as corrupt, sinful, and criminal as Democrats...

The only difference is that Republicans actually talk about religious issues while Democrats USUALLY don't...Apparently that is enough for the ignorant religious right as they continue to keep the Republican Party in office in the south not realizing that moral issues don't help you escape poverty.

I'm neither a Democrat or Republican...I'm just somebody who looks at the candidates I have to choose from and makes an educated decision based on this.

I know these things about myself:

  • I hate the War in Iraq and think it was one of the worst decisions ever made (please show me how Hussein was a TRUE threat to the US).
  • I hate the political correctness that has taken over this society.  Grow some balls and learn that NOT EVERYONE IS A WINNER AND NOT EVERYONE LIKES YOU!  I promise...You can survive if you aren't liked by everyone and don't get to tournament in sports.
  • I am a Christian, but understand SEPARATION of church and state.  And don't give me the crap about this country being founded by Christians...It was...But the first government of this country made sure that for the rest of time it would be based on RELIGIOUS FREEDOM...As in we are free to be whatever we want to be.
  • Gas prices make no sense when oil companies make $11 billion per QUARTER and a family member of mine gets a raise every two weeks (he works the company mentioned above).

Those are the issues I feel most strongly about...I vote for the candidate that I feel will fix and/or work to fix those problems.

All in all though...I don't let political crap bother me...If I thought about it, I would be depressed all the time.

I'm not...So I just live and let live.
