After last week’s weak field, we fantasy golf pickers have to come back down to earth this week and select from a more talented bunch. We’re not talking a majors field here at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club, but it is a solid group and makes it a fun challenge to narrow my selections to 10 players.

So what do we have this week? Colonial, in Fort Worth, Texas, is a par 70 course, at 7,054 yards. But it’s certainly no pushover—the average cut line since 1995 is 1.92 strokes over par. Still, I can’t help thinking, whenever I see a par 70, whether we’re going to see a sub-60 round. It’s never happened here—the course record is 61, held by 6 players, most recently Chad Campbell in 2004. Well, here’s a stupid, baseless prediction, pulled out of thin air—I say someone shoots a 59 this week. You heard it hear first. And if I’m wrong, which I most likely will be, then I never said it.

On to my 10 players to watch for the Crowne Plaza Invitational. I’ve happy to say I’ve got two lefties on my list, but no, neither one’s named “Mickelson”:

For my list of picks, please visit www.leftylinks.com/blog. Thank you!

Interesting that you didnt pick the worlds best lefty in Mickelson, but Ive got no problem with your picks.  Heres my picks: Mickelson 300k, Furyk 290k, Nathan Green 170K, Briny Baird - Ive been riding the BB train most of the year - 163k, and John Merrick who seems like a bargain this week at 75k after last weeks feild

I'm taking Phil as my top dog again this week.  Big Lefty fan he's in my line-up pretty regularly. Chad Cambell, as my Texan Native.  Anthony Kim for his total domination at the Wachovia.  Debuting Matt Kuchar the "Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech" .  Lastly but not least Paker McLachlin for his strong performance last week and the pants!  Looks like his dipping into Johnny Miller's retro closet from 1978!

These are my picks for Colonial.

I've got :

  • Phil Mickelson- can't really go wrong with Phil
  • Jim Furyk- played well at Colonial last year
  • Parker McLachlin- had a good week last week, needed a solid $75,000 pick
  • Kenny Perry- Two time champ, played great last week
  • Steve Elkington- having a good enough season, could play well

I liked Langer too ILG, except he is not in the field this week because he is probably playing in the BMW.

I am not a lefty fan but chose not to pick him simply because of the cost, seeing he is not playing lights out right now, a couple of the other top guys do not impress me much either, but Stricker specifically because he is having a terrible year so far.  I just do not have it in me to pick Olgivie, so I went with the following:

1.) Jim Furyk (I believe he will redeem himself from last years playoff defeat)

2.) Stephen Ames (Having a very good season and has excellent par 4 stats)

3.) Kenny Perry (I am riding the wave seeing he is a very streaky player)

4.)  Briny Bard (Having an incredible year, and again, I am hoping on)

5.) Tim Petrovic (Has a very good record at Colonial)

paulig13,  I must have looked at a former list and typed  in the wrong names.  I have for this week, Furyk, Sabbatini, Baird, Pavin and Hoffman.

I just have to ask you ILG, what makes you believe Sabb is going to do anything?  Just because he won here last year?

Pavin?

Maybe I am way off but your picks sound a bit strange to me.   What did you base them on?

Don't get me wrong ILG, I love Furyk this week and Baird is having an incredible year, but the remaining 3 of your picks have me baffled as to why you would chose them.

Yeah jonnycakes, Merrick is a bargain at 75k this week, and I have had him in my lineup quite a bit leading up to Wachovia, and I almost picked him this week before Petro far outweighed his value at 75k, but something is telling me Merrick will tank this week and not even make the cut.

Just a gut feeling though.
