Cat... I always respect your posts! But I'm sorta lost on something. When you talk about OU or teams in the SEC not having to share revenue - are you talking about any revenue, including regular season revenue? It seems that you are, but I may be mistaken.
If we talk about only the Post Season (which is what the original post was)... Doesn't the fact that there is such a large discrepency between the revenue awarded (in post season play only) to BCS schools versus non-BCS schools indicate a serious flaw?
Do you think a Caste social system is acceptable? Where being born to a lower station in life means you will always be a peasant and can achieve nothing more then that! ...... Isn't that about as un-American as you can get - where the montra is: Anything is Possible.
If that's the case, isn't the current BCS system for Div1A football un-American? Fact is, if you judge the current BCS system by typical American "Capitalist" mentality, where the non-BCS schools are essentially lower class, and thus subjugated to the BCS for its pitiful handouts, then the BCS is in fact un-American!!!
Again... The post season revenue sharing is only the result of a flawed system (an un-American system). I don't want handouts for BSU. I don't want handouts for anyone. I want the system to be FIXED! Where everyone in the same division (FBS) has the same chance for greatness - regardless of how little or pathetic you were the previous year (or the previous 10, or 20 or 80 years)!!!
Change will come. One day. When it happens, I can't predict. But it will happen.

BA....I know you are talking strictly bowl money, but others have suggested all money should be more distributed....and the bowl money is a reflection of the regular season...do you think BSU generates as much money for television and the NCAA as say Florida? That is where the bowl money comes from. Advertising.....so those companies do have a right to dictate who plays in the bowls there fore getting their cash. The owners of the bowls have a right to protect themselves too. Now the Rose bowl has gone overboard trying to protect their whole Pac 10-Big 10 deal. They are the biggest thorn in a playoff system.
and as sad as it is..BSU(30,000 seats) is lower class in the football world....KSU(50,000 seats) is lower middle class and Ohio State(100,000 plus) is Bill Gates....that will never change...so you can either give up and be pissed off all the time and whine(I'm not talking about fans whining) about it or find a way to beat the system with what you have...
You want a free ticket to the post season...I won't give you that....it's already almost there for you. KSU's road games this year are Louisville,KU,MU,CU and A&M....our home games include OU and NU..now if BSU will step up their scheduling I might listen....but Hawaii and BSU got in with horrible schedules so you guys have been given a pretty easy route to big bowls...not to the same big revenue I understand....
Gene has done one thing right financially by selling the Broncos soul and playing on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays...getting high ratings and giving people around here a false since of the nation loving the Broncos...lets hope he is getting top dollar for it...if they played say Nevada on ESPN2(it would have to be 2) on Saturdays against a LSU-Auburn game...Texas-OU game..etc. the ratings would reflect a different story...TV knows that so that's why the money still goes to the big boys...KSU's revenue is peanuts compared to OU,NU,CU and Texas yet we have to play 3 of them every year.
I want a playoff as bad as you do, but that won't give you a lot more money...that will never happen....in college basketball the little boys have as good as chance at making the big dance as the big boys...but they are doing it with a lot less cash....that isn't gonna change in football either....
Until then the administration needs to take advantage of the Broncos popularity right now and make some big cash for the university....I've seen a lot of wasted chances to generate cash here and if he doesn't hurry up BSU will lose it's window of cash making potential...
Just so you know BA...I feel for you and all the other Bronco fans around here because you have no say in what the University does...I don't think you guys really understand that Gene and his gang have let slip through their hands......I've seen first hand what a University can do with just a little momentum....boom..and then it can be gone...

BoiseAlumn,
Excellent article, excellent points, I kind of enjoy watching our village idiot make a fool of himself.
The thing that all of this proves is that college football, (make that BCS college football), is a multi-million dollar business. The BCS conferences are not stupid, they have a gravy train in which the conference bottom dwellers make more BCS revenue than any non BCS school. Even when Boise moved heaven & earth, they were forced to share the Fiesta Bowl revenue with EVERY other non BCS conference & school. Oklahoma made more money by losing than BSU or Utah, the non BCS entrants, got for winning. Poor Hawaii only succeeded in keeping the wolf from the door for a year or two.
Let's not compare apples & oranges. We all understand that teams with huge stadiums and 8 home games a year (often the little guys only get 5 or 6 home games) that they rake in big bucks from the gate, concessions, tv rights, and souvineers. The bowl revenue is truly a windfall. That is what makes the system unfair.
The sickening part is the BCS smugness that, like Marie Antoinette, suggests that starving peasants who lack bread eat cake. The entire system is carefully crafted to keep the twenty or so elite programs on top, give another 10 or 12 a chance every once & a while, and let 1 or 2 non BCS schools get a few scraps to avoid an anti-trust lawsuit in federal court. The only chance for the nonBCS school is to try & figure out how to move up to a better conference or elevate the status of the entire conference. In BSU's case neither of these are going to happen.
We can only try to get better. Boise St is one of the few nonBCS schools who makes a "profit" from football. The statistics tell us that of the 112 d-1 programs only about 40 come out in the black in the total athletic budget. Most break even, and a few like Houston or Idaho run big deficits. USC, Oklahoma, Georgia, & Texas are four of the biggest winners. Why would they ever want to kill the goose bringing so many golden eggs?
