Slow my role ??Buzetes? My comment was stupid? Lets see maybe you can answer this question then "little Grasshopper": How does a running back as strong and talented as Marion Barber, in that prolific offense, with one of the best offensive lines in the league and one of the best offensive coordinators numbers drop with more touches? That is the stupid comment Buzetes. He is set up to have a career year carrying the bulk of the load barring injury. How can he get worse? It doesn't make sense. MBIII is a stud and will probably break 1200 yards rushing and probably get 12-15 touchdowns.
There was an argument a few weeks back about Maurice Jones Drew and Marion Barber about who is a better back. Based on their numbers they are very close.
Now I don't know if Marion Barber is worth this kind of money. Jbank, you stated 1200 rushing yards as what he'll get, but that would put him 10th based on last years numbers, just ahead of Thomas Jones.
The problem i have is that Barber is going to be expected to carry the load, 20-25 rushes per game. Now he's never had more than 204 rushes in a season before. With that number increasing by 50% at the very least I would have some concern about durability issues down the stretch of the season.
Obviously if Marion Barber has 300 rushes for 1450 yards and 12 TDs and is still going strong at the end of the year, then it would be worth it. But for a back who is a bruiser to be expected to go from 12 rushes per game to a big load and succeed is going to be tough. I'm not saying he's not going to do it, but the expectations shouldn't be that high for him to be a top back in this league.
Personally, right now, Marion Barber is in the second tier of Running backs. So I don't think it is worth the money, but it could very well be.
I only have him at about 1200 yards because Dallas is a pass first and second offense. In a more traditional offense, he would probably get up around the 1400-1500 like Frank Gore a couple years ago. I wil agree he is a second tier back right now, but that is more of a credit to the group of first tier guys than a knock on Barber who would head the pack of tier 2 guys. You have LT2, A. Peterson, B. Westbrook, L. Johnson, S. Jackson rounding out tier 1 with Barber being right at the top of tier 2.
I agree with your Tier 1 backs Jbank..LT2, Brian Westbrook, Larry Johnson, S.Jackson...I am hesitant to put Adrian Peterson yet, cuz he has to do it for more than one season to be i the top tier... if he does it for a couple more seasons, then there is no doubt that he is a tier 1 back..don't get me wrong..he is probably as much a game breaker as any of the backs in tier 1 today!!!
Bit I disagree that Marion Barber is on top of Tier 2... There are many more backs who would be above Barer...Clinton Portis, Frank Gore (when healthy), Willie Parker,McGahee, Rudi Johnson,Ronnie Brown...These are all second tier backs who have proved they can carry a full load..
I would put Marion Barber on top of Tier 3... but only becuz he hasnt carried a full load yet... He would fit in here Atlanta's Turner.... They still have to prove what they can do with a full load...If Marion Barber does what he did being a full time back having 24, 25 touches a game and putting up good numbers (even if Felix Jones gets some of the carries), I'll have no problem putting him among tops in Tier 2..But lets give the guy a chance and see what he does before anointing him the next great one or labelling him as a bust as a full time back...
Lets just wait and watch...I'm hoping he is good as a full time back so that the NFC East remains competitive and the most challenging Division in the NFL... Its more fun to watch on Sundays!!!
Are we talking fantasy or real life here inferno15? Either way it would be a tragedy to put Barber in tier 3 behind Parker, McGahee, Gore and above all other names Rudi Johnson? Rudi Johnson? lol. Barber is 3 times the player Rudi is. You are knocking Marion because he hasn't shouldered the load yet but that really shouldn't matter as much as the situation. Barber runs behind an effecient offensive line, is talented, supported by a good defense and there are lots of weapons surrounding him. With Parker and Brown coming back from injuries, Barber is easily the top Rb after the big 5. The only player who may garner more consideration there is Portis. Barber has proven himself for 2 years in a row now. I don't think he is a flash in the pan.
