The Great Paul Pierce
The Truth.
P-Squared.
The Man, the Myth, the Legend.
Top Five Player.
Durable.
Clutch.
Fearless.
Courageous.

Game One was a very good game.  It had its ups and downs but Boston showed resilience.  They showed resilience against bad calls and they showed heart when Pierce and Perkins went down with injuries.  I was numb when Pierce came out of the tunnel - and then he nailed the two huge threes.  How about the beginning of the third quarter before the knee injury?  All Pierce did was come out and score 8 points in 80 seconds.  His 15 third quarter points put Boston ahead to stay and struck fear in the hearts of Lakers fans around the globe.  So, Phil Jackson is 41-0 when his teams win game one.  What about when he loses the first game?  Defense wins championships.  Some argue that offense trumps defense.  Yes, for those who play to win in the regular season it may.  Ask Jcat, ChrisperJ10 and all those other Phoenix birdbrains.

When is Paul Pierce going to get the respect he deserves in this league?  Word.

Not so sure about the bad calls part nor the Paul Pierce top 5, but that was one great third quarter for the guy.

Excellent game - hope they're all this competitive.

I just hope that we can play at this level until its over.  We need Pierce to be healthy enough to carry us to the promised land.  Word.

Rondo was really the unsung hero of that game. If he keeps it up like that while Fish and Farmar basically shrink (Fish hit some shots, but didn't play a lick of defense) then it could be a green year.

Pierce will do his thing - Rondo is the x-factor.

Good point, IGP, people don't realize that Fisher is playing on a bum wheel to.  Rondo came out and nailed some of the open looks that LA gave him.  His jumper is a bit better than the scouts report it to be.  Game Two Sunday night should be very good.  I think LA will make some adjustments and come back ready to play.  Garnett had a phenomenal defensive game and so did Perkins, who I expected to get into foul trouble.  Word.

I am so impressed with Perkins - he is far from the fifth wheel out there - he really gets on it especially on the boards and defensively. Young guy too - I see great things out of him.

C-Rock,

Congrats to you and your fellow Celtic fans on a well deserved, and needed, game 1 win.  The Big 3 came through with 65 points and Boston's bench pretty much held the fort.  The Celtics came out with a lot of intensity and emotion, along with a great boost from the crowd.  Paul Pierce's remarkable comeback from what looked liked a series ending injury was nothing short of miraculous.

Meanwhile, outside of Derek Fisher, the rest of the Lakers didn't play all that well.  Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom looked soft and had below-average games.  Vladimir Radmanovic was MIA and looked like a statue playing D.  Luke Walton was horrible, Sasha Vujacic was ok, and Jordan Farmar and Ronny Turiaf were non-factors.  Add to this that fact that Kobe Bryant was 9-26 and missed several "bunnies", in what was a subpar effort by the reigning MVP.

Mix this all together in the wok and the Boys from Beantown should have won by 30.  Yet, the Lakers were still in the game until the final minutes.  This game was eerily similar to the game 3's that the Lakers played at Utah and San Antonio.  Look for Phil Jackson to make some fine tuned adjustments and for Kobe and Co. to step up their game, much like they did in game 4 of the previously mentioned series.

The Lakers tie this Finals up on Sunday. Word.
