Hey TT:  I remain of the opinion that Bart Starr is my #1.  You certainly could not be perceived as a "homer" to put him on your list for #2 !!  LOL

What swayed my vote for this distinguished honor was the commentary of Coach Bill Curry who played with Starr and Johnny U.  Curry stated, without reservation, that Starr was the best team leader and QB he ever saw or played with in the NFL.   This man knows a lot more about football and greatness than I.

Sure, I liked Montana and those 49er teams were exceptional.  But, I liked Joe a lot better when LT and Leonard Marshall rattled him (literally).  Starr was awesome and does not get his due.

IMO, he's tops.   I'd put Johnny Unitas as second.

I wonder who all the Patriot fans are going to vote for now that Tom Brady is off the list?

Why would you wonder that??? A true Patriots fan is a fan of the game, they'd have to be the way we were punished in the early years!!

Unitas for sure

GO PATS!!!

Staubach, for the simple reason that after college he did his 4 year stint in the Navy before putting on a football uniform.  His stint was during Vietnam so he was there in wartime.  Not being a homer here Trash, I feel the same way about guys like Ted Williams who left the game to serve their country and returned.

All the others got out of college and started playing, Staubach did so with a time handicap and won 2 superbowls.

Johnny Unitas.  Set every passing record during an era where passing was 2nd to the running game, and when defenders could maul recievers until the ball was in the air.  His records have mainly been broken, except for throwing a TD pass in 47 consecutive games.

Again, I protest Joe Montana being the 'nearly unanimous' number 1.  I would argue that he wasn't much better than his backup quartrerback (Young).

I also don't think Super Bowls are a great criteria, given that guys like Hostetler and Dilfer have won one.  While quarterbacks unquestionably go a long way towards determining how good a team can be, quite often there is a great team with a middle of the road or "okay" QB.

Finally, as in this thread's predecessor (which degenerated into Manning v. Brady), I vote Johnny U.  Someone noted earlier some of the differences between the modern game and his era, I would also note that they played less games in those days (14 regular season games).

There are a few of you on here and it doesn't take a genuis to figure out who the band-wagon fans are and the real fans are.

Just ask them to name some players from the Bears Patriots super bowl.

And I don't mean just 2 players ask them for about 6 and you won't here from them for about 10 mins. because they went to look them up.lol
