Holy Father of Bourbon, Beer and Broads, what in the heII is goin' on around here? All this racket and what not. Piss on UGA..... $%#@ Florida, yap..... yap.... yap..... bunch of no good, pathetic, pieces of SEC FOOTBALL!!!!! Hell yeah, gents..... it is July and I knew something was going to happen because next month starts camps and wo can't wait 30 days before we all go totally insane and look back at this period as the "innocent times".
So, we have UF fans resorting to the arguments I once found myself very familiar with. Utilizing the look at the record argument and stating not much more. Why do I just pass this off and chuckle upon reflection, it is because I experienced this exact same chit that you all are going through now, but it was the Dawgs doing the dominatin'.
Now, hold your luggage lizard tails now and let me have a minute of your time and recall something I experienced back in my days at UGA, 1982-1986. You see, it all began with two teams, the Gators and the Dawgs. And during the time period of my years there and before the streak began for Florida, I was at the end of a streak that Georgia was experiencing. Lets look at an interesting bit of trivia.
UF's streak started in 1990 and if you count this years WLOCP, it will equal the number 19. "Nineteen?", you ask. Yes, NINETEEN!!!
You see, if Georgia just so happens to win this years game, UGA will have experienced the exact same streak Florida experienced at the hands of UGA, immediately prior to the beginning of UF's.
I'm living in the past, you might retort. But ahhh.... my point. I came into UGA, naive, unknowing of exactly was UGA football, but I learned immediately that UF was hated and that "WE" owned the Gators, and it was true! Just like it has been for Florida. It was the exact same thing that I experienced, loved and then was taught the cruelty that all good things come to an end. And it did, crashing down in 1990 with the arrival of SOS!
The record, by the way for the 19 years before the streak and after is as follows: UGA 15-4 (1971-1989) UF 15-3 (1990-2007) with the game that can make this a true reflection of what Florida fans are enjoying now.
These arguments that are presented today are eerily similar to the ones we yelled at each other and threw into the faces of our rivals in Jacksonville, as there wasn't anything comparable to the internet to make it a year round affair easily accessed.
Bottom-line.... I love it. It is football time. Florida is actually worried about the Dawgs again. The Dawgs are actually contenders and are making a go at making this a great rivalry again. I'll always party with a Gator in jacksonville and offer up a beer in honor of the "game" played by both fan bases and the one played on the field. I'll drink to the competition.
To you recent Gator fans. Enjoy the trip. The one you swear will never end. For those that were there earlier, you know it has been a blessed run. Just understand this one bit of advice, all good things come to an end... and well???????
Anyone ready for some football?
Go DAWGS....
