I think Pavol Demitra is a UFA, didn't double-check, but if he is maybe swing him in here to line up with Rolston wince they already played together and get ourselves 2 solid scoring lines (asuming Elias plays to potential) with a nice potentially young 3rd scoring line? Maybe use Gionta to bring a real scoring D-man for our PP? Getting rid of Gionta will mean we need to replace his production (or lack thereof), but I still think we need one more scorer. Holik and Rolston won't be enough unless one of these young guys turns out to be a stud. Just an idea, not sure if we got the cap room though. We need one more scoring forward and a offensive D-man. Who's left in Free Agency??

I think Lou is done signing UFA's at this point.  First of all we are only about $2 million under the cap, and second, he is quoted in the Bergen Record as saying something along the lines of that he is looking to make moves to trip salary so that he has flexibility to make more moves in the future.  So unless the Devils can unload some salaries (maybe Gionta and White for prospects/picks) I can't really see Lou doing much else.  Though one thing of note.  We signed Sergei Federov's younger brother (Fedor) to a minor league contract.  Maybe Lou is trying to woo Sergei here to provide a bigger offensive boost.  Also, Brendon Shanahan is still available and he could come cheap.

FLdevilfan........Enjoying the festiveness of the fourth, good for you:)!!!! Anyhow,I think Lou may trade away someone for some picks though he would need a buyer.DOnt expect much more.Yeah we are defeicent in a few areas that could be better, but so are the rest of the teams in the NHL.They have a cap too and you can onlyh bolster so many areas with whatever talent is available that comes.Maybe some of the youngsters will chip in and score some.

Hey, I hope everybody had a great and safe 4th, as for the Devils, Eagle can I kill Lou now? Com'on Lou, Buffalo (who I posted about needing a defenseman and was offering Afinaganov) just traded 2 second round picks for Craig Rivet (who is older and makes more money then White at 3.5 mil for the next 3 years). What we couldn't even get a third rounder for White? I believe we could of gotten a second rounder only if Lou would of offered White. Then we would of had 3 more million in cap space. Then we could of went after a Demitra (likle FldevilFan said) or like Slapshot said a Shanny or Fedorov (I don't know if we needed another center unless Zajac was going in another trade - maybe with Gionta to bring back a REAL F'ING DEFENSEMAN that we really need!!!). Guys, I think Lou needs a wake-up call here. He's missing a good off-season. I don't want to start killing him again but I can't see how we start the season with the SAME defense as last year. He has to do something here. He can't just throw Zajac and Gionta for a defenseman at the end of the off-season because we don't have the depth to do that. I hope like somebody said before that Corrente gets a shot but thats to replace either a Greene, Mottau, Vishnevski or Brookbank not the top four guys. Fldevilfan, I would love a Demitra here. He can play both center and wing which is good in case we have to move Zajac or others for a defenseman but we need to move salary first. There are other teams (Ottawa and Tampa Bay) looking fo a defensive defenseman maybe Lou should contact some of these teams of course unless he thinks that last year's defense was just plain awesome!!!! .

Gambi, As soon as I saw that Rivet deal I knew we certainly could have done that or maybe been candidates to get a deal done, helping us with sending away one of the surplus defenseman that eats up to way too much cap space. You called it Gambi!!! One safe Bet is Lou is conservative and you can bank on his rewarding his loyal players, perhaps too much at times. The Negative side is the creativity part in adjusting to the cap and freeing up more money(by dealing away larger contracts for lesser value contracts or future draft picks)....I dont see th
