No, Europeans won't be allowed to win the Cup. The Red Wings need at least one more big, veteran, Canadian defenseman to have a realistic chance with the referees. Until they compensate for the loss of Yzerman, Shanahan, and McCarty (all Canadians), they don't have much of a chance unless they play the Sharks and Senators in the conference and Cup finals. I like the Jody Shelley acquisition for the Sharks. He gives them a credible Canadian threat. He could conceivably remove two Europeans from a playoff series by himself. That's great value that the Red Wings could really use. It is hard to pick against the Wings. They have been winning the type of games this year that they have lost in the past, but it's still not the playoffs. My only other picks would have to be Anaheim or San Jose. I don't like the way they go about their business, but it makes it difficult to play against them when you're that angry with their cowardly tactics.
