What is going to be the Rangers record in 2008?
I personally think they will be 81-81 which puts them at .500. It's an improvement from last season.
I wish they would win at least 90 games, but I am a down to earth kind of guy.
Good luck Rangers

Well I'm not a down to earth kind of guy. Look at my avatar, I'm a pie in the sky, wish on a star kind of guy and I think that the Rangers will win 90-85 this year. No really I do think that.

Give me a .500 record and I will be more then happy. Ive said this before and I will say it again. The worst thing that could happen to this team is for them to over-achieve and be in contention at the trade deadline. If that ends up the case Hicks will pressure Daniels to make some moves to push for the playoffs and we can kiss our farm system goodbye. Speaking of the farm system, I read earlier that Baseball Prospectus will have the Rangers system ranked 4th this year behind the Rays, Reds and Red Sox.

I hope they do better than .500 I feel they have the pieces in place to contend.

I hope they do better than .500 I feel they have the pieces in place to contend. If they can land a starting pitcher and Millwood and Padilla win 32 games I think they can end up 91-71. I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised this year.

You 2 have lost your minds if you think the Rangers will contend this year. They are light years behind the Angels, Tigers, Indians, Red Sox and Yankees. I could see them finishing 2nd in the West but Seattle is probably a better team right now. Oakland has likely traded themselves to the back of the division. In fact the one thing I say the Rangers need to make sure of this year is that they dont finish last in the West. If they end up behind the As there is a serious problem.

Only in pitching now after this offseason. Stranger things have happened.
You 2 have lost your minds
Mr. ATDel this is the best part of the season. Everyone has a chance. Don't be disillusioned by years past. Did you think the 2006 Tigers had a chance? Did you think the 2007 Rockies had a chance? Come on, think positive!!! You are too young to be so negative... Here to the 2008 Rangers!!! Let go Rangers!!!
Cheers-

Im very happy about what they have done to make this team better for years to come so its not about being negative. I just know too much about the game of baseball to even think the Rangers are a contender this year. Obviously there are always surprises but be realistic. And they are just as far behind those teams I listed in offense as they are in pitching. We have a total of 0 established power hitters in the lineup. I guess we could call Blalock 1 but he still needs to prove he can come back form his injuries. We have a few guys with the potential to be that kind of hitter but they have to prove they can produce before I will give them the label of power hitter. We dont have anywhere near the lineups of any of those teams. The Angels are the only one we come close to comparing to.

Mr ATDel,
I am playing with you just a little bit but, I am also being very honest about some things. Hitting HR's does not make you a winner.
Who hit the most HR's last year in the AL?
Yankees 201. Did they win their league? No. They had the 4th best record in the AL. Good? Yes, but they should be good for all the money they spend. Great infield. Great outfield. Underacheivers. Enough about the Yankees.
Red Sox hit 166. Infield so-so. Lugo, Lowell, Pedroia, and Youk. Rangers are better if they stay healthy. Crisp, Drew, and Ramirez. I think it's a push with Byrd, Hamilton and Bradley.
Indians 178. I think we have a better infield and outfield after this offseason.
Tigers 177 last year. I will reserve comment because it will be apples and ornges after their moves. Caberra is a stud. Big upgrade from Inge.
Angels 123. They have a better outfield I give you that. The Rangers have a better infield.
Rangers 179. What??? More than any of these other teams but the Yankees.
No power hitters? I don't think so. Well established. Well that just means they are almost over the hill.
BTW the Rangers are better with Hamilton than with Hunter....

I didnt realize those teams were lower in HRs....good info. Look at the run totals though, all but Cleveland scored more runs. And Detroit as you mentioned above improved greatly on offense with Cabrera. Also remember Sosa is now gone and he led the team last year. Also the stats that Teixeira put up are a part of the Rangers team numbers. Hamilton should do right around what Sosa did last year, maybe better but that would be a good year for him. Also keep in mind Byrd and Murphy will more then likely not be quite what they were last year. I bring up the lack of power hitters because when you play half your games in a launching pad you need to have guys that can take advantage of it. We suffer from our park on the defensive end and cant take andvantage from the offensive side. There are 2 major holes that keep our lineup from being what those other teams are. First is a legit clean-up guy. We have 2 guys in Blalock and Bradley that could be good in that spot but both have huge ? I dont want Hamilton there because in my mind he is our best hitter so I want him batting 3 so he can have some protection. Young spends alot of time in the 3 hole but I really dont like him there. He just doesnt have the power to be a middle of the order guy. He is perfect in the 2 spot though so thats where I like him. The 2nd glaring hole is that we have nothing near a true leadoff hitter. The Reds used Hamilton as leadoff at times but like I said he's the best hitter so we cant waste him at leadoff.

Totally agree. Leadoff is the glaring hole. Let me think about this for a second and I will get back to you. That 1,4, & 7 are real questions and I need to think about... 1 is the biggest problem... 4 is a stop gap... 7 is big too... I like Murphy at 1 when he starts. I like Shelton at 7 when he starts. I like Byrd at 5... lots of doubles...

The problem with the Rangers is the same problem that they have had for the 20-25 years. Pitching.

I am a Yankee fan but i really like the free agents you picked up. I think there is one problem with your team, and that is your starting rotation. You guys need to go and take a chance on a couple of pitchers. Their a couple deent ptchers such as Livan Hernandez, Josh Fogg, Bartolo Colon and Jon Leiber. I think your starting rotation should look like this.
1. Kevin Millwood
2. Livan Hernandez
3. Josh Fogg
4. Vincente Padilla
5. Brandon McCarthy
Backup Starters: Kameron Loe, Kason Gabbard, and Luis Mendoza
What do you guys think???

Hey sooners26 im guessing you are a Oklahoma Sooners fan so am I. If you are did you see the OU VS WV game it was sucky. We get so cocky when it comes to bowl games.
OK back to baseball. I dont know who would take Padilla. Their are a few teams like maybe the Twins the Astros or the | |
