Lets see here, Fedorov to the Caps for Theo Ruth, and Adam Foote to the Avalanche for a 1st round pick (either '08 or '09). Anyone know what the Jackets are trying to acheive here?
I know Fedorov has been injured, and is getting up there in years, but Foote was a bit of a suprise. I have no clue how Ruth is, so if anyone knows about the guy feel free to post, but I get the overall feeling that the Jackets are thinking ahead to next year instead of trying to make a playoff push this year, as I don't see this having an immediate positive impact.

Well, according to TSN, Ruth is a 19 rookie that Washington just drafted. Again, more youth, so I guess we're looking to '08/'09

Ruth was a mid-round draft choice that is a long shot to do anything in the pros. It makes me think they just wanted to get rid of Fedorov's salary, even if only for 6 weeks. I'd really like to see Joakim Lindstrom actually step up and make some contributions.

better to get something for him, than let him go for nothing at the end of the year. As for Foote....good riddance. He is a turd, honestly...he wouldnt stay for 500k less per year, which i thought we were still overpaying him if he took that deal.

I think that Fedorov was expected and Foote we hopefully got the best for him I think he walks after the season anyway.
It is quite obvious to me that the Jackets are looking to the future, i only hope that one year we have the team of the present. i dont think our owner will ever dust off the pocketbook though. This is very disapointing to me we have a great building and I think a good coach now we need the pieces around Nash And Leclarie.

I think we did okay with Foote--one first rounder and a 4th if the Avs resign him. That's okay, I guess. I'm confused by Federov. There were at least three teams that kept coming up as interested--Det, Ott, and Min. None of them would offer anything more than Ruth? Don't know much about him other than he wasn't rated in the Capitol's top ten prospects. Det, Ott, and Min must not have been very interested if the Caps could get him for Ruth.

I agree with you all one. Obviously we didnt have the worst day . I did get to watch the world juniors so hopefully we can draft an impact rookie there were a lot of them to watch we already have the number one prospect in Mason the Goalie ,Voracheck looked good also, who knows. I will still go to the games and hope we can compete every night.

All i have to say is they better spend like fat ladies at a bake sale! They have so much cap room its not funny! Howsen take lite pockets of your owner and start buying third line free agents in the off season! I have stuck up for these guys way to long i'm tired of building toward that forever tom! One season you should try and make a run that year! I have a new name for the bluejackets this year!
The Columbus Lawn Chairs! The reason for this name is they fold up and move on every year!

the federov trade was expected. he hasn't been anything particularly special for the jackets, especially this year. I don't think having him or not would make a difference in the jackets playoff chances. they might as well let the young players get some experience for the future and as i said, i don't think having federov would help their current chances. if the present isn't affected then i think the future is what matters.
as to foote, i hate to see him leave because he's a tough, gritty player who i think has been the heart of the team the last couple of years, but with his contract expiring we weren't going to have the money for him anyway, nor would he be worth much. based on that and the jackets current unlikely chances of making the playoffs i'd say a first round pick is more than worth it.
truthfully, i knew the jackets wouldn't trade for any players/superstars good enough to carry them into the playoffs. i don't think there were any players out there who could've done this for them. if they end up making it it'll be because their young talent realizes their potential. i believe the team they have now is only a strong hitter/defender away from being a legitimate playoff team year in and year out. i just hope that they keep them together.

losing nash wouldn't be terrible... zherdev is much better. also, leclaire isn't even the jacket's goalie of the future... mason is. i don't find it frustrating, and i'm sure hitchcock supported today's decisions.

I'm sorry barrymccochener did you just say losing Nash wouldn't be terrible? Are you nuts! This guy is the only guy on our team that can score on a regular basis! Did you not watch his high light goals (the one between the legs) and (A going through 2 defenders and the goalie)?
I can't tell you how many times i have seen Zherdev slip and fall in open ice and how many times i have to watch his toe drag wrister into the goalies stomach! This is this is the only year he has been able to score more than 40 points!
The point is Nash is one of the best scorers in the NHL and to lose him would set us back way longer than losing Zherdev!

I was dissapointed with the Foote move but not surprised. I'm going to guess he wanted a 3rd year in his extension for the $4 million rather than the 2 @ $3.5 reported today. Howson said "nope" and they moved on. If Footer wants to come back, he'd be a welcome reacquisition (if that's even a word) so long as it wasn't at a huge price (read $4 mill/3 year).
I want the CBJ's to make the playoffs this year but am ok if they don't! We're 5 weeks from the end of the season and we're talking about the playoffs so it's new and fun! Frustrating (see 7-2 CHI loss) but fun (Det 5-1 win, 3-0 in Montreal, etc..). I just wish the powers that be wouldn't have tried to strong are the ticket holders with the playoff ticket fiasco.
Let's go Jackets!!

Building for the future??? When the hell is the future going to arrive?!?! I am sick and tired of hearing it! The management has been saying this for 6 years now!!! We have a chance to make the playoffs and our GM deals Adam Foote for conditional draft picks to build on the future. He deals Sergei Fedorov for a D-man who hasn't played a minute in "the show?" What a joke! This fan for one is tired of the BS this team peddles year after year! For the future?!?! Enough is enough. The future is now. Don't these schmucks realize they are loosing their fan base because of this. The fans are tired of it. Their attendance is down 2000+ fans from last year and they have a chance to bring the fans back by going to the playoffs and they pull crap like they did today. A sad day for Blue Jackets fans.
