I heard they are shopping him around and the Devil Rays may be one of the teams interested with SPs Jackson or Hummel being available. What do you guys think? If that's the case we may have Hopper/Patterson platoon in CF.

I we could get anything from Freel, Id do it in a heart beat. Especially decent arms like Jackson and Hummell. If they are that desperate for a CF, go for it.

Yeah, I agree.  If Krivsky can get a decent pitcher for Freel straight up then by all means he should do it.  I doubt though, that he has much trade value other than being involved in a package deal.

I read in an article that even Freel feels like he is going to be traded.  He admitted there is younger talent (Hopper and Bruce) that is getting paid less that can do the same job he can do or even better.  He did say he would love to stay in Cincinnati though.

It's hard to give up a guy that can play 8 different positions.

I'd hate to give up a guy like Freel because he plays the game the way it's supposed to be played (250% all the time). But if we could get Jackson for him I'd do it in a heartbeat. He's struggled alot in the bigs but he's got a good arm and maybe a change of scenery would do him some good. Plus pitching in the NL Central has to be easier than in the AL East.

Jackson was pretty bad last year and has never really proved he can pitch well. I'd rather keep Freel.

With the emergence of Jeff Keppinger, and the signing of Corey Patterson, Ryan Freel has become somewhat expendable. He is NOT a starter no matter how much we love seeing him fly head first into the wall or dive into the stands trying to catch a foul ball. He plays too hard to last a full season. If anything we could send Jackson to the minors to get some more fine tuning (assuming he still has options left, he's still pretty young). But even that seems like a lopsided deal, a young pitcher with some potential for a utility player. Where did this rumor come from?

This was from MLBtraderumors.com and Fox Sports.  I don't know how much merit it carries, but John Fay also mentioned the rumors swirling around Freel. I think if they get a chance to unload him, they will.  To make 3.5 to 4mil a year on a small market team, as a non-starting utility player, is baffling. That money can be better spent elsewhere.  I love how he plays the game as well. We were at the Freel T-shirt give away night, my kids love him too, but we have to be realistic. He is doing nothing but holding up a spot for the young talented OFs they have. ( i.e Bruce, Dickerson)  He's got to go!

... not so hard to give up a guy that looks as ridiculous as Freel does at bat. I love his diving catches, but the man has killed more rallies than I care to remember in the past couple of years.
