I agree with you 100%. I've been getting a lot of flack from being supportive of the suggestion that they should take Jake Long while he is available. When the best qb in the draft is what he is, (whoever he is) is he really special? I think not for this year's draft. However, I feel that Jake Long IS that special guy you can't pass up. That's my gut feeling anyway. Just ask Marino how important Richmond Webb was to his success. This guy is a beast and we can build around him. Somewhat lost in all the debate is how attractive playing behind a solid line is for the free agent qbs to be should they decide to develop Beck (who I still feel has a lot of value to the team if they can commit to him. I know... to be determined.) I'm still smarting over the Ginn instead of Brady Quinn drafting fiasco. Who knows, maybe they can lob offers to Cleveland and we can get him cheaper than by drafting him since they're all on the Derek Anderson bandwagon.

Championship teams start with D-line and O-line then go from there.  If either one of your lines suck, you could have John Elway as QB, but you'll still likely lose a boatload of games.

If the Dolphins were smart, They'd get Jake long and plug at least that spot on O-line for 10 years and go for a QB in the 3rd round or so - its actually a pretty deep draft for QB, and there should be plenty available.  I do think Beck needs some more competition.  Hopefully it drives him to be better

This most definitely not a deep draft for QBs - it might have lots of big names such as Colt Brennan or Chad Henne late in the draft, but there is a reason teams don't think highly of these players, namely that they have significant flaws. Henne couldn't get his place back as a starter after the kid who just transferred to Arkansas took over, and Brennan threw far too many interceptions and is the definition of a system QB. There are guys like Josh Johnson from San Diego in every draft but are they worth a 6th round punt?

I don't think Miami should draft a QB at all this year. Let Beck be the starter for a while, the rest of the team will need to improve before any draft pick will help them at QB. And God knows Miami will be picking in the top 10 for at least another year (they are guaranteed at least 4 losses from the Bills and Pats alone) so why not wait until there are some real quality prospects available rather than burning a #1 pick on someone who won't be worth it without the rest of the team?
