A 20 game win season is something special, they don't come around every season clearly, but I have to agree, that if Maine, in the #4 pitcher spot, doesn't reach 16-18 wins, the way he pitched last season, and the strides he's taken this year shown in spring training, theres clear reason for him to be disappointed.
I also think you are shafting Martinez there a little. The man came in last season and went 3-1 in 5 games. Lets say that he gets 25 starts this season (which is on the lower side) thats already 15 wins. Martinez may not give you the long innings all the much, but his 2.45 ERA shows that he will give you the low run totals to allow his team to win more often than not.
My feeling, as its been all along, isn't how many games can the Mets pitchers keep their team in it and give them a good chance to win, but instead, how many runs can the mets score to allow their pitchers low run totals to be enough for a win. I'm deathly afraid this year of the 3-2 loss as I don't see the back of our line up being all that formidable.
But all answers will be answered soon enough... less than a week till mets first pitch! LETS GO METS!
